Cinematography and lighting

Visually, Supernatural is a beautiful show. There is something about the lighting and the cinematography of it that hits me on visceral level. It provides depths and layers to the show; highlighting the overall mood, providing it with texture. Add that with the gorgeous (grand, long shots like a canvas) cinematography that remind me of a film rather than a television series, the whole visual experience of Supernatural is just satisfying.

It probably makes sense that the last time I’ve seen a television series being lit and filmed like this was during the good seasons of the X-Files (btw: the amount of anger and bitterness towards the latter show is damn impressive. I never knew that there were so many fans who felt betrayed too). As an added bonus the lighting for the show loves its main cast: Jensen and Jared and JDM look really hawt under those light; highlighting features while hiding other parts in shadows.

So, yeah, barring all the plot-holes, the sometime cringe-worthy scripts, and the wha?- factors, the show is absolutely beautiful.
