2009 Australian Open Champion
2009 Australian Open Champion; Rafael Nadal. I wanted a placeholder to remember. That was an excellent match, not as amazing as their Wimbledon match, but I suspect very few match ever will be. Nadal was the better player tonight and deserved to win, however, this doesn't mean I don't feel CONFLICTED! There is such an emotional investment for Federer to win tonight; his 14th Grand Slam, winning the Australian Open again, just so many reasons why it would have been an amazing evening if he had won, but Nadal was the better player, so kudos for Nadal.
Also, I just wanted to hug the two of them during the awards ceremony. Roger cried, and Nadal didn't smile much and just looked really sorry. It was all very TEARFUL! SADS!
ETA: I have slept on it, and you know, I feel kind of gutted about the match, not that Nadal won, because he did deserve the win. However, it was just utterly devastating seeing Federer's reaction to the loss. Just, damn it. The whole thing was heart breaking.
