fansubs... piracy.... MORE! & dried up brain juices

Since I have been so quiet in the past few days (STRESS! UNI! STRESS!) I thought I should say something really smart and funny, though I think what I said just came across as uh, unethical ^^;;; Anyways, onward with the show.

I'm a leech, and I think pirating is one of the world's major ecnomic powers that need to keep on going.

(Possibly in reference to the FMA subs. Possibly).

Piracy law is different across the world. For example, VIZ is not allowed to release any of their English translated manga in Australia because apparently it is illegal to do so, at least in Australia.

Also, I think there's a little disclaimer in Australia's piracy law that basically goes along the lines of, as long as the fansubs are AHEAD of the official release IN Australia, the fansubs ain't illegal. And since it takes FOREVER for the official SUBBED version of any anime to be released in Australia (2 to 3 years) I'm technically not violating any AUSTRALIAN law.

Don't quote me on it, [livejournal.com profile] inu_chan probably know this better than I do. She does law.

I'm sure I had a point, but I think I've lost it somewhere around 'I'm a leech'. Oh yeah, now I remember. I LOVE FANSUBS! Even if there is an official release. Yes, I have no morals whatsoever when it comes to my anime. And that's about it.

Now I shall go and collapse because studying accounting dries up my brain-juices.

More likely, because when a Japanese licensor sells the rights to a title, it usually sells them only for a specific area. So Viz gets U.S. (and possibly Canada), it's entirely possible someone else will come along and grab the Australian rights.

not really. Viz has the rights to Australia, and they can sell them here. Perth has one major distributer, and it's a problem between Quality Comics (the distributer) and Viz Distribution.

JAFWA orders Viz titles on behalf of it's members...

Quality Comics has found another distributor and is now selling Viz stuff again, if you didn't know. ^_^
