It's a cultural difference thing.

Thank the gods, because I honestly couldn't understand the outrage or why it was such a big deal. Like you I'd have been more surprised if the performance had been live and would have been kind of stunned if the song was sung by her. It was obvious that it was lip-synched, and yet people just keep on going on and on about it. The thing seems really confusing.
