Olympics

1. When Liu Zige won the women's 200m butterfly the Chinese media was completely dumbfounded, they had no idea who she was and spent several hours trying to figure out where she grew up and blah. It was both hilarious and awesome because no one expected it. Oh, happiness.

2. Federer's match against Blake. I don't want to talk about it; I'm still kind of in shock. However, as someone said in much more succinct words; he's Roger Fucking Federer. He'll be fine.

3. Male swimmers and male divers, oh gods, male water sports contestants.

4. The whole brouhaha over the little girl who lip-synched. I’m confused by the outrage, I’m more confused about the Milli Vanilli comparison because dude, no one in Asia cares nor even understands the comparison. Also, as far as I understood it the coordinators for that part admitted on National television that the little girl lip-synched. I’m just really confused by people who keep on harping about it. The Opening Ceremony is a performance, something that should look good so of course they would choose the cuter girl. Please explain to me about the outrage, or is this going to end being a cultural difference thing again.

5. The gymnastics age thing; see, this outrage I can understand. I’m really quite concerned about the girls’ physical health than anything else. However, people really should shut the fuck up about their performance. The girls out-performed the other teams, accept it, and move onto the fact that really matters; their physical health and whether China should be fined/punished/whatever for the lying about their age.

6. I’m REALLY enjoying the Olympics (barring the Tennis because that’s fucking heart-breaking. So, Nadal, GO and WIN this!)

It's a cultural difference thing. I would have been completely astonished had the song not been lip-lynched, and merely agreeably surprised if it had been lip-synched by the same girl whose voice it was. (And for that matter, could tell immediately that the girl was lip-synching, so not sure how it managed to be a revelation to anyone after the fact.)

It's a cultural difference thing.

Thank the gods, because I honestly couldn't understand the outrage or why it was such a big deal. Like you I'd have been more surprised if the performance had been live and would have been kind of stunned if the song was sung by her. It was obvious that it was lip-synched, and yet people just keep on going on and on about it. The thing seems really confusing.

Yeah, when we first heard about the lip-synching, my bro and I were amused at the way the media played it up, though I did assume that at the most, she was lip-synching to her own pre-recorded voice.

And the arrest of the British journalist in renegation of the promise of full freedom of press. Again, not surprising.

We are going to hear alot more in the next two weeks, I imagine.

I admit the whole thing seems kind of ridiculous to me, and I really can't seem to understand it but oh well it is the media.

See the media go into a frenzy over entertainment well people die in wars. *sigh*.

I was told by a commentator on my post that the names of both girls were on the program pamphlet... so, maybe this is just a way to make sure both were represented? ^_-
