Advent Children

So, um, self control *shifty-eyed* I was good. Got home around 10:00pm yesterday, went straight to sleep, woke up at 1:00am to do more work on my assignment, went to sleep around 3:40am, woke up at 5 something-ish this morning, and, well, I just had too.

So, at 5:09am this morning I started watching Advent Children, with subtitles.

Japanese subtitles.

And you know what, the language barrier made no difference whatsoever.

My none-spoiler review: The ring tone. MWAHA! The RING TONE!

RIBBONS!

MATERIA!

And WTF is the deal with the wolf?

My spoiler-filled review.

Best bit of the whole movie; seeing the guys talking, moving, and together, fighting against Bahamut as if they were a well oiled machine; the gaming/strategy geek in me squee with GLEE. Trekking across the globe, fighting monsters, defeating enemies, learning about each other; yes that’s my team right there on the screen.

Vincent and his CAPE! MWAHAHA! Perfect!

Cloud and his stupid one shoulder get-up actually serve a purpose. Very pleased about that.

Rufus is alive. Not surprising. Rufus continuous shooting of Kadaju and Jenova as the two three of them plummet to the concrete ground was *make sounds* yes, it was an experience.

Why is Tseng alive? How is Tseng alive?

Love that it is Tseng and Elena who saves Rufus. Turks ♥

Reno and Rude became the comic relief of the film, not sure how to feel about that, though got to admit was unbelievably happy when Reno and Rude fought ‘properly’ against the other two Sephiroth clones. It is interesting the difference between there’s and the team’s fighting style. The guys are stupidly powerful (they had to in order to defeat Sephiroth), but the Turks are still in the realm of human skill. Just those few exchanges between Atobe long-haired seph-clone and Reno made me go; afjksdhjh, *fangirls*

RIBBONS! So, that’s how you wear a RIBBON! I couldn’t stop giggling every time I saw the PINK ribbon wrapped around Cloud’s bicep. And it is in the shape of a really nice bow too!

Materia. Bigger than I thought, more like those big, shiny, round globes you hang on Christmas trees. Actually, it is exactly like that. Also extremely pleased to finally see how you equip a materia on your armour, very cool.

On the same vein, I’m going to take a few minutes and screech about people’s weapons. Cloud’s swords, so that’s how he manages to carry around so many of them at the same time. Damn, this movie is so good to me. Slightly confused on why Yuffie and Tifa were using their weakest weapon, and was not sure what weapon Barret was using.

Midgar. I know that city. The bridge that was never completed (even after 2 years), the church, the city centre, man, I love Midgar.

Cloud and Tifa. You know, for the first time I think there might be hope for them. And even if they never become more, their friendship is so much more important.

Cloud, Aeris and Zack. I don’t even know where to begin, Cloud who loved Aeris because she was what Zack loved, except he truly did love her. Aeris who loved Cloud because he was like Zack, except she did love Cloud, or Zack who loved Aeris, and died to save Cloud. It is, is, yeah. All I can think about is Aeris walking away, Zack waiting for her at the door, and the two of them, for all intents and purposes, saying goodbye to Cloud. And Cloud is alive, determined, alive, and surrounded by his friends. Living. And there are just no words to express what I feel about them, so, shutting up.

Overall: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Man, I feel for you guys who has never played the game. The in jokes, the details and the sense of SATISFACTION, you will never understand. Sad, sad, sad. OK, off to do assignment.

ETA: The MUSIC! The MUSIC! OMFG! The MUSIC! LOVES! I recognise over HALF of it!

>Man, I feel for you guys who has never played the game.<

I feel so vindicated every time I see a post like this about the movie. <3 Am so glad you enjoyed it, but I had a feeling you would. Fellow FFVII fans tend to have similar reactions. And I am STILL FANGIRLING OVER IT. I don't think it'll cool down for me for a while.

Mwahahahaha. Exactly, I get all warm and glowy (and more than slightly petty) when I see people who has never played the game flounder a bit ^__^ Evil I am. But omfg! ♥ the film!

Yessss. Not sure how well this film stands on its own, since I was spending most of my time screeching over familiar places/items/moves.

I love how they made it almost consistent in game terms -- everyone's levels (Reno and Rude who are just a bit inferior to the rest, because ha, they never were the toughest bosses in the game, were they? Rufus who's a lousy shot; Bahamut, which takes a bit of time to bring down but not too much; and ohman, STRIPPING CLOUD OF MATERIA BEFORE PITTING HIM AGAINST SEPHIROTH. because if you do your groundwork, the final battle is much too easy, and I don't see Cloud having any trouble wiping the ground with Sephiroth, but without all his fancy-pants materia, that's another story entirely); Cloud carrying a huge arsenal of swords around with him; how he can change weapons in the middle of a fight; the limit breaks; the fact that they have to take damage before executing a limit break.

SO wonderful.

(Also, a girl mentioned in Sabina's AC post that she thought the wolf was a representation of Zack, which I think makes sense. ^^)

Exactly. It is just hard to figure out whether people who has never played the game can actually enjoy the game as much as those who has played the game.

I KNOW! Internal gaming CONSISTENCY! So damn HAPPY! Because realistic speaking Rude and Reno are no competition against Cloud or the Clones. And omfg! Rufus being a bad shot (relatively speaking) is just perfect. And Cloud WITHOUT his MATERIA! It is like 'omfg! Gaming LOGIC! SQUEE!' Because as you said Cloud would so KICK SEPHIROTH'S ARSE if he had those SHINY Materia! Love the SWORDS changing! Need to rewatch to figure out the configuration and combination. And YES! LIMIT break only when they get hurt! MWAHAHAH!

HAPPINESS! ♥

(Yeah, apparently, there was some reference in the FF7 game about Zack fighting like a wolf or something.)
