Katekyo Hitman Reborn + Eyeshied 21

[livejournal.com profile] dreamlessness, thanks for the rec! I have caught up to Katekyo Hitman Reborn and I NEED more! It went from this strange, kind of interesting series that I may or may not follow to OMFG! WHERE IS THE NEXT CHAPTER? I have this deep LOVE for Yamamoto! LIKE COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS LOVE that MAY or MAY NOT be PLATONIC! The way the artwork evolved is just amazing – compare the first chapter to the newest chapter and it is like two mangaka drawing the same series. Sure, this series isn’t going to be on my top 5, but it is just fun to read! And YAMAMOTO, Gokudera and OMFG! Mokura is like your average psycho times a billion!

They TRAVELLED into the FUTURE?! I mean from a plot POV it would have been stupid not to utilise the timecanon, but still I just wasn’t expecting it. Mind you, KHR isn’t exactly a series full of coherent plot points, but it doesn’t matter because it is such a fun series!

I have also caught up to Eyeshield 21. Oh gods, just oh gods, this is why I LOVE shounen manga so very MUCH! I would have a much more coherent write up except all I can say is YOUNG HIRUMA! And OMFG! GO DEVIL BATS, GO! I get terribly involved in the matches that I ended up mainlining approximately 150 chapters of the series, and everything is really jumbled up in my head at the moment.

Hiruma is estranged from his family, I’m very interested about his father and why he is no longer with them. Also, Christ, his fricking arms, that was one match that had me bitting my nails and screaming. Because guys, I read Slamdunk, and I honestly wasn’t sure if the Bats were going to make it to the Nationals.

The small flashback of little Sena and little Shin had me making stupid squeaky seal noises. I like the fact that the two of them were DESTINED to be rivals but never knew it. And it was just awesome.

Kid’s past is all sorts of interesting, and I was really saddened the fact that they got taken out. However, it was necessary for drama, and honestly you don’t want the team to be against the same time more than twice at the most.

It is pretty cool that the Devil Bats are fecking deadly, and most of the time the only thing letting them down is more back up players. They may win games but they do some serious damage to themselves because they have to play because they have no additional members to switch out.

GUYS, I have MISSED shounen MANGA so very much! Please PROVIDE recs to your favourite shounen manga series. I love sports and tournament series. What I require more than anything is ENERGY and PASSIONATE characters; hence the love of shounen sports series. [livejournal.com profile] perseid, what was the name of that baseball series you were talking to me about? I require names!

Have you tried Shin Angyo Onshi? Supernatural historical Korean shounen.

It hasn't been translated into English yet (it has mostly been translated in French, which is where I've read it) but you can find scanlations at http://www.onemanga.com/Shin_Angyo_Onshi/

hi, ninjaing the thread just to say: a friend recommended that same manga to me earlier this evening. it must be fate - i'm trying it out first thing tomorrow night, after deadlines ♥

It is very pretty, and the cool factor is off the scale. The ending, in many ways was inevitable, and if you have watched Korean drama/movies it should be a very good experience.

i've been warned that it's "depressing," although i still have the ending to look forward to. korean media manages to make "depressing" v. cool somehow :)

Well, it's tragic. That isn't necessarily the same thing as depressing, though it can be. :) Hope you enjoy it!

As [livejournal.com profile] incandescens it is more of a tragedy. But honestly, with the way the manga is set out and the characters involved it would be hard to end any other way.

Yes I have. Followed it and was utterly gutted by the end. Good series, very Korean, so I knew what I was in for.

Ah well -- good to know there's another fan out there!

I read the series and I enjoyed it, and while I may go back to re-read certain parts it isn't a series I would keep or feel the need to get fannish about (if that makes sense).

[livejournal.com profile] baka_neko on the other hand is in love with it.

Makes perfect sense. :) Say rather, then, that I'm glad I'm not the only person out there who's enjoyed it.

yeahhh, and it seems it's most evident in how tsuna has changed (not evolved, exactly) -

from into

and from into

gokudera's also become LOADS bishier (from being, yanno - sanji), which is to my liking :3 yamamoto, oddly enough, hasn't changed much face-wise, although he's starting to get a fashion sense (LOVE his outfit in his fight with squalo ♥). must be taking tips from gokudera now. his biker!chick gear is perpetually reaching new levels of hot XD

KHR is lots of fun, isn't it? i'm having a blast not wanting to quit the damn thing XD you're right, it's full of plot holes and weirdass character development, among other things, but it's still mightily addictive. plus, the lack of detail on the characters actually leaves plenty of room for the imagination to play in. i see yamamoto as a complex and highly ficcable char, for example.

the most popular baseball thing going on these days i think is ookiku furikabutte, or oofuri for short. it looks very promising, and it's also definitely on my to-see list! along with code geass and blood+.

Tsuna! I LOVE Tsuna! And you are right it shows exactly how much the style has evolved just based on his Super Saiyin Mode! He is so pretty now as opposed to a bit of a nutcase. Gokudera is just like OMFG! You are PRETTY! When did that happen? I was very surprised, and the amount of leather and other accessories he's carrying cracks me up so very much. And hey, he has stopped throwing up whenever he see Bianchi. Yamamoto has only gotten longer, and seems to be actually more angular. It suits him, and yes, a FASHION sense, oh gods, the boy was completely hopeless. Also, OMFG! Future!Yamamoto is HOT! (His fight with Squalo made me squee, and OMFG! I love how Squalo filmed ALL of his fights and sent them to Yamamoto. They are hilarious.).

KHR is just great! Who cares about plot holes when it is is so EPIC!

Ohh, that's the one I was searching for, now I must go back to work. Thanks!
