fic recs
This post is a collection of fanfic recs from various fandom that I have been meaning to make. Strangely enough they don't just consist of anime/manga. I'm sort of proud.
FMA
I have just discovered The Alters! series. It is collection of pic drabbles set post ep 51. The PICS are GORGEOUS WORKS OF ART! GORGEOUS! The drabbles details Ed's travel in 'our' world (Munich, Zeppelins, and Churchill? It is our world). What makes it wonderful is the fact that Ed has a traveling companion, a man named Masuta Ichiro, this world's replica of Roy Mustang. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and Hoenheim's fate made me want to cuddle Ed until that look would go away from his eyes.
The series can be broken into two sections. The first dealing with Ed and Masuta's adventures in 'our' world, the second detailing their adventures once Ed returns to 'his' world. The former is interesting for the glimpses of lives of familiar characters. Lust's role in 'our' world will make you giggle like a school girl, and the single glimpse of Al and Nina will make you smile and at the same time tear up for Ed, and when you find out just who Masuta's parents are *cackles*. People's reactions to Masuta ranges from hilarious to heart breaking. Some of Masuta and Roy interactions can be heart wrenching in a completely understated way while other times you are giggling your head off, 'cos while Roy and Masuta may have similar characteristics they are completely different in other departments.
Just go and READ! READ!
STAR WARS
In preparation for the release of Episode III in May next year I have been reading Star Wars fanfiction. Long, Sprawling Epics that make my days fill up with bliss.
To begin with, The Pertinent. Set post ROTJ, the Emperor being the paranoid man that he is had Vader cloned. The body of a 10-yr-old Anakin Skywalker clone is found, and with some persuasion on Luke's part Anakin Skywalker's spirit return in the clone's body. Many a people is mad at Luke. Anakin angsts, Leia has issues and Han contemplate history in a Solo sort of way. Oh, and Amidala is alive after having spent over 20 years in a prison camp. Go and read the fic, then go and read the relevant background fic. Actually, it is probably smarter to read the background fic first then read the actual fic.
It is long, it is epic, it is a glorified court case. I love! Go! Read!
Jedi Dawn. Set in the middle of A New Hope and just before The Empire Strikes Back. So, Darth Vader find some of Obi-Wan Kenobi's hair. The Emperor has cloning techniques, and voila. Yes, I believe cloning will make the world better no matter what everyone else think. One warning, it is a WIP.
I'm a sucker for redemption fics, and I really do think Obi One Kenobi got a shit deal.
Miles Vorkosigan series/Harry Potter Crossover
E. H. Smith's 'Without Enchantment' and 'No Great Magic'. Crossover between HP/Vorkosigan. Yes, that Harry Potter. Snape and the Vorkosigan siblings having a series of meetings for reasons that neither party can figure out. A study on those who have lived through much, and will live through much more. The Vorkosigans are -dead on-. Absolutely perfect. It is as if Bujold has decided to write her own fanfiction. Mark is Mark and Miles is Miles, there really isn't anything one can ask for. Don't worry, no other HP characters make an appearance (thank the gods).

juliefortune. Aftermaths are never pleasant. Post OOTP, and if this is not a spoiler I don't know what is.
Naruto
Teamwork by Asuka Kureru. Naruto gets frisky, Team 7 deal with the consequences. I LOVE this fic. LOVE! Good Naruto fics are so hard to come by of late.
YuGiOh.
Yes. I'm a rabid YGO fic reader, there is no point in denying it anymore.
Read EVERYTHING written by Nenya85. Everything! She have this amazing grasp of characterisation, developments are never rushed and you can feel the layers to each person.
Vathara specialise in crossovers. Good, comprehensive, extremely well thought out crossovers. The characters react the way they are suppose to when being faced with individuals that are down right bizarre and dangerous by their standards. READ!
I'm highly fond of 'Roll the Bones' and 'Upon a Fiery Steed'. The former a YGO/Sentinel crossover and the latter a GW/SG1 crossover. It works, it honest to goodness works. Just ask
perseid.
