Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files

Reading Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series; I like. The series is very readable and Butcher creates these characters that are easily likable, and I admit I might have lost a lung laughing during the opening sequence of Blood Rites. The constant stream of snark is all sort of awesome, and there are just so many things I like about the series, which I will talk about in greater depth at a later date. For now I must go back to reading.

ETA: My love for John Marcone might be slightly over the top.
ETA 2: Thomas!!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
ETA 3: LARA!!!! YOU ARE SO AWESOME!
ETA 4: OMFG! WHAT?!

Chronicles of Narnia

I finally got around to watching Prince Caspian the other day. It was surprisingly enjoyable, which is a very different reaction I had to the book when I read it 15 years ago. I read the Chronicles of Narnia when I was 11, and while I fell in love with the Pevensie children and Caspian, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Aslan or the other children in the series. Hell, I read other 5 novels post-Caspian in the hope that Peter and Susan would return. Believe me I was not impressed by the way the series ended.

Anyway, due to my liking of the film I thought that I might have judged the books a bit too harshly, so off I go to read the book. Well, figures that all the bits I did like in the film were NOT in the book. I always hated how the children were short-changed by Aslan, hell, at the age of 11 I thought it was pretty irritating that a talking animal told a group of children who saved his world that they were NOT allowed to return to Narnia because they were too old. Honestly, shittiest reason ever, and I always felt cheated that Lewis never dealt with the way growing up in Narnia and then returning to our world must have fucked up the children quite a bit.

And let’s not talk about the end of the series; what Lewis did to Susan, yeah, just fucking yeah.

Supernatural + Alex Rider, no, not a crossover.

So, the other day I decided that I was ready to watch the last 2 episodes of Supernatural as I felt I was emotionally stable enough to view it without being horribly scarred. I watched 3.15, which I really enjoyed, and then I clicked on 3.16. I was met with a black screen and the message of = the video cannot be rendered. I tried several times with several players only to be retold the same thing over and over again. There were some swearing but mostly I’m going to see this as a sign and not watch the season finale till the beginning of season 4. I may be less traumatised this way.

I’m in the process of making my way through the Alex Rider novels. In relation to Stormbreaker - if only they had followed the novel a bit more closely instead of dumbing down the plot, or attempt to make it look ‘cool’. The book was fun and never lost its pace, and the rest of the characters were so much more interesting and less of a caricature like that of the film version.
