Fic Rec!

I haven't done one in awhile.

Supernatural, directly post season 4 finale - Better Angels. (I like to called it by [livejournal.com profile] rivkat's working title “fixit.”)
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Let’s just call it Lucifer/Sam/Dean, plus others.
Summary: A little more than kin, and less than kind.

It is pretty much how I needed post season 4. I have issues with the last episode but they are too irritating to get into. Just know, from a thematic POV, this fic solves all my problems!

Fandom update because I like to keep track

Still around – reading [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang and re-watching DBSK’s 3rd Live T Tour Concert clips on my iPod. Bigbang fics has been very draining this year, don’t get me wrong, the quality has been superb, but some of the angst has been both unflinching and unrelenting. As a consequence I have finally figured out what type of stories I prefer to read; generally speaking I prefer reading understated J2 fics, not the epics but fics that focus on the day-to-day lives of our heroes. I want to read about people falling in love; not the be all and end all love like that of Sam and Dean (platonic or otherwise). I want the quiet, understated and content love that some of the J2 fics has been pulling off so superbly.

[livejournal.com profile] reccea’s In Production is my current favourite big bang fic.

A decade after Supernatural ends, Jared Padalecki is still working in series television. His marriage to Sandy is coming to an amicable end, and he's famous enough that he wants to be out of town before he becomes a tabloid headline.

Jensen Ackles has seen his career progress from small but weighty parts that earned him acclaim to above the title billing. The notoriously private Jensen extends an invitation--by way of a first-class plane ticket--for Jared to hide out at Jensen's mostly empty Paris flat while he films his next movie.

Three months in Paris is enough to tone down the tabloid attention, but Jared returns to LA only to find that he doesn't have everything figured out. They say you can't go home again, but Jared discovers that sometimes that's exactly what you have to do.

In Production is my current happy place.

[livejournal.com profile] perseid, DBSK’s 3rd Live T Tour Concert clips has been awesome; so much dancing, so much singing and so much FLESH! I really like the film clip they did for TRICK; it makes me want to read fics about the boys being spies. I love like YunHo’s long hair, the shiny silver outfits and they even made me like Tomorrow, which I hate with the passion of a thousand burning suns. I still prefer YunChun’s voice the most, and a live band at the concert was the best decision they ever made.
Good time, good times.

Big Bang Fic: Come Play With Me by [livejournal.com profile] lexzilla.

Summary: Film geek Jared Padalecki is almost living the dream. He’s gone from excitable horror-convention-going fanboy to hot new cult film director in just five years. Now he has the budget, the studio and the stars. All he still needs to do is convince long forgotten B-movie actor Jensen Ackles that he wants to play the leading man in more than just his new movie and then it really will be 'happily ever after'. Of course, in life, just like in the movies, true love never runs smoothly...

My Comments: OMFG! I LOVE this fic to bits! If I can ONLY ever read ONE fic in my whole entire life I will read this! Twink Hunt! Blood Spattered Samurai! I am in LOVE! Don't leave me! It has CULT FILMS! OUTSIDER POV! DORK JARED! INTELLIGENT JARED! And just OMFG! I LOVE this so very much! There NEED to be MORE!

Fourth Wall by [livejournal.com profile] raina_at.

Summary: When famous murder mystery fiction writer Jared Padalecki is suspected of having murdered his former girlfriend, he turns to his ex-boyfriend and criminal defence lawyer Jensen Ackles for help. Matters soon get complicated both personally and professionally when both the case and their relationship as lawyer-client turn out far more difficult and volatile than either of them expected, and the lines between fiction and reality, past and present begin to blur.

My Comments: In my mind [livejournal.com profile] raina_at can do NO wrong. She does a pretty damn awesomw job here, and I want to read MORE about writer Jared and lawyer Jensen.

See, I want to learn how to play the guitar for the sole purpose of being able to play The House of the Rising Sun, the version of the song done by Brand New Sin makes me really happy.

But that aside, a Supernatural fic rec; Last Outpost Of All That Is . I cannot articulate how much awe I'm in of this fic. It is both epic and deeply personal, I- I'm at loss. So, I’m just going to re-post what [livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon posted about the fic.

The boys struggle to deal with a world that's almost unrecognizable. Searching for what they need keeps bringing them face to face with each other.

Leave her a comment at here, after you finish all 61,700 words. Yes, 61,700 words, it is sheer awesome.

SPN fic: Strange's Country (gen, PG-13).

Gen - 52,598 words

Summary: Sam stopped focusing on ways to free Dean from the deal and started looking for ways to get him out of hell two months before he was due to arrive there.

This is just amazing. I'm completely at loss for words.

I missed the great LJ break-down. Yay?

SPN fandom is awesome. [livejournal.com profile] blue_soaring meets Jared and Jensen, [livejournal.com profile] stele3 wrote The World's a Small Child in the Dark; the definitive Sam & Dean slash fic for me, and Kripke soothes casting-fears. Why isn’t it October yet?

I bought Kingdom Hearts 2; I really need to find time to play it and the other 5 or 6 games that have accumulated.

Angst = BAD (sort of)

For some obscure reason lj decided to private-lock 50+ of my entries without my knowing, they are unlocked now, but I'm still perplexed on how this was accomplished.

In relation to SPN fics - I cannot like any fic that separates the boys (this include deaths and separation by choice and/or extenuating circumstances), no matter how brilliant it may be. My brain rejects it with a passion, and will often attempt to erase the whole experience from my mind. Don't get me wrong, I love angst, but angst without the happy ending sucks. Why bother going through the pain of angst, when there is no reward at the end? I read fiction because I want to escape reality, I want to believe in hope, good triumphing evil, and just because I want a happy ending doesn’t mean it need to be a tidy ending. My happy ending for SPN is for Sam and Dean to be together, driving into the sunset in the Impala, on their way to the next hunt. While I can imagine the two of them going out with a bang, I refuse to accept it, because I need them to keep on fighting, to be the heroes that they are, to be together, because they are Sam and Dean Winchester. Anything less is just unacceptable.

Swear By All Flowers by [livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain.

Summary: Two years after the yellow-eyed demon is defeated, the Winchesters are still waiting for their happy ending.

And that is how you write a happy ending! READ THIS!

Running Laps Around the Sun by [livejournal.com profile] pixel_0. Sam and Dean learn that sometimes one future must be sacrificed for another.

Sam/Dean - AU as of season2 finale, but this is the type of future fic I love reading. Cried my eyes out. [livejournal.com profile] perseid, I wish your reading tendencies for SPN didn't exclude sam/dean fics, because you would love this.

More SPN Fic recs.

A Change Is Gonna Come by [livejournal.com profile] cosmic. John makes a wish, and Fate can't be stopped. Utterly devastating in its simplicity.

this is how you set a table for tea by [livejournal.com profile] unperfectwolf. Hendricksen is on a hunt for the Winchesters only to find a blond girl by the name of Jo. All the ways that I can love Hendricksen, and the ways that Jo can/could/does rock.

Live and Die This Way by [livejournal.com profile] goldatamera. Pre-series; Dean finds what was lost, this made my heart clench and I couldn't decide whether I wanted to cry or laugh in joy.

To The Left of Avalon by [livejournal.com profile] deadspeaker. A thousand years in the future, Dean meets a child on Mars whom he finds oddly familiar. Manages to pack in a whole universe with layers of humanity and history in 1,619 words. Even though I pretty much guessed the plot points from the summary alone, I was literally at the edge of my seat as if braising for impact. The final three words to this fic is like a punch to the gut or the feeling of sun kissing your cheeks (possibly both) - satisfying, works on its own, but ohhh, I want more.

Secure the Blessing by [livejournal.com profile] rahmi.

A Supernatural gen fic; Sam makes a wish. Dean is not pleased. It is 21,000 words of pure awesomeness, I don't want to spoil anyone further because reading this with no preconceptions is just an amazing experience. I love that the fic deals with the logistics of an action and its consequences. I love that Sam is not dumb, he's John Winchester's son and he knows that nothing is ever without a price or a sacrifice. And Dean, oh Dean, the BESTEST older brother ever.

RL crisis over, or at the very least I’ve achieved a level of acceptance over the shit that I’m calm enough not to snap.

I the Supernatural fandom. LOVE it to tiny little fangirl bits. This love is brought to you by the discovery of the Slash Anthology produced by [livejournal.com profile] moveablehistory. It is perfect, just so perfect, and I can bring it with me wherever I go (reading on the train! Yes, I may have a hardcopy with me.) My mind breaks at the time and effort that must have gone into the whole endeavour, it is just amazing.

I this fandom!
