Disney buys Marvel.

I have been meaning to post about this but didn't want to do anything until I have read up on the whole deal. So, Disney bought Marvel.

Um, yeah. Not sure what to think about this. Mostly I just want to sit back and watch the fireworks from afar. There is no reason to judge until there are some major changes in the way Marvel goes about business.

MARVEL: Secret Invasion

So, Secret Invasion just concluded.

I’m so relieved that Marvel didn’t retcon all of Tony Stark’s character development. I’ll probably talk more about the series when I get a chance to read the whole thing instead of reading synopsis of the chapters. As it is I’m missing big chunks of the story, but at least the ending avoided my worst fear.

Still the bestest film ever. Directing, acting, script and plot. Just so damn awesome. So, this will take my viewing of the film to, um, time #6.

I was thinking that Jon Favreau and the writing team for the film are geniuses; in the time span of 30 seconds they managed to cross through 40 years of canon and pretty much update Iron Man to the new millennium. There is much admiration on my part.

Now knowing a bit more about the Iron Man comics canon, I really, really, really hope that Favreau will continue to follow Ellis’ Extremis plot. After all they pretty much took most of Iron Man’s origin from it, and the design for the movie Iron Man suit is heavily influenced by Granov, artist for the same series. It would be awesome.

Also, I wonder how they are going to handle the whole ‘need armour now to fight evil’ as opposed to spending several minutes donning the armour with the aid of machines. Please not the suit case.

In short; I love the film.

Iron Man 4 - Director of S.H.I.E.L.D

I haven’t read any of the older Iron Man comics beyond those that are uploaded on scans_daily. I have only read Iron Man 4, some New Avengers and a few of the important arcs involving Steve and Tony. So far, the writing for the parts I have read has been awesome, and I’m loving the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D series.

Extremis and Execute Program really highlights Tony’s dislike of himself and the ways he want to change the world for the better. Yinsen’s kid screwed him up, and the destruction caused by him and the other supers reinforces the idea that Superheroes of the Marvel universe cause some major collateral damage with little supervision. The following chapters really showcase just how cut off Tony is, and just how much pressure he is under; superheroes from all sides, Happy’s deaths, betrayals, and just people in pain from every side. It was brutal and the aftermath of Civil War left Tony in a position where he can try and make everything better.

Spoilers for Iron Man 4 up till issue 28. Warning; I do not guarantee the sequence of events, I read the issues in a very short amount of time and everything is a jumbled mess in my brain. )

I just re-read the post, and honestly I’m not even sure it makes sense, I just needed to get it out of my system, because without verbalising it somehow I can’t process exactly what I’m feeling about the current IM arc. I don’t read any of the other titles (only the summaries) so the whole Skulls Secret Invasion is not having much of an impact on the way I view Tony’s characterisation.

Also, I really like Maria Hill. I liked her in New Avengers, and I like her more in Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

New Avengers and Iron Man

And the pepperony wins it. Not too surprising.

I have been reading the New Avengers, and OMFG! I really like Steve and the rest of the Avengers; they are hilarious and so awesome. Steve is just so nice, and this makes Civil War so much worse. Otherwise, damn, Tony gets his arse handed to him on a regular basis, though it is a question of whether it is due to an enemy’s attack or through his own actions.

Marvel really knows how to whore their titles. Yes, we shall reveal a page or an issue of what’s happening in another series because Iron Man is needed to deal with the Hulk/insert your villain, and then shift back to the story again. It makes you want to find out what’s happening with the other titles.

More thoughts later.

Iron Man comics

Iron Man v4 chapter 1 to 12.

All sort of awesome.

Extremis and Execute Program lays amazing groundwork for Civil War, which I have been spoiled for. Yet despite knowing what will happen I'm rather twitchy about reading the run. The angst may kill me.

I am, however, missing chapter 5, which makes me sad but I'll get my hands on it sooner or later.

Now I need to buy Iron Man v4 - Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I want to talk about the issues, I just don't know where to start.
