Re-read A Civil Campaign and Barrayar today. I get the urge to cackle evilly every time I get to the bit where Cordelia gate-crush the Vor Lord's meeting by dumping the head of the Pretender at their feet. She's so cool.

"Guard your honor. Let your reputation fall where it will. And outlive the bastards."

-- A Civil Campaign, Lois McMaster Bujold

(As said by Lord Aral Vorkosigan because Miles sometimes miss the bloody obvious.)

I should sleep. I need sleep. Hmm, I think I'm going to go and re-read Memory. (Damn it, I need more novels by Bujold.)

ARAL! and 'Opening The WAy'
Hell yeah! And then she proceed to show them. And Aral's reply, 'It is a tradition.' I *hearts* them so much!

(I'm currently reading Opening The Way... actually I just finished Chapter 6, and all I can say is TOSHIKI!!! *squeal* or *cry* 'cos his current company is not exactly what you call safe -_-;; Fudou freaked me out when he first appeared, and really you have made him so much more creepy. But I can't lie and say I don't enjoy seeing Toshiki suffer. It is because I adore him so.

Strange that he is my favourite character from GB considering his screen time. I suspect it is his fascinating relationship to Juubei and Kazuki *koffs*threesome*koffs* and the *koffs*BanKISSEDhim*koffs*. The love I feel for him is completely fangirly. It is something along the lines of what I feel for Oriya.

That aside, I'm so happy you're writing about him. The lack of English fanfics on Toshiki is heart wrenching. OK, moving back to 'OtW,' I'm really quite curious where you are going to take this. The girl with the bunny was a bit of a shock. It really shouldn't have been. You have so far managed to juggle all the cast so wonderfully, and considering the way you have been hinting on the going ons in the background it should have been obvious that she would turn up. I am curious as to why they kidnapped Toshiki though. And I Love the reaction Kazuki had to his kidnapping.

*awaits for more*

Re: ARAL! and 'Opening The WAy'
Thank you very much! I'm really glad you're enjoying it. It's being fun (if hard work) to write.

Toshiki and Oriya are both interesting characters. There's plenty left unexplained. You can do things with them, and have them be ambiguous, and even have them be not-totally-good. It's fun. ;) It is also indeed sad that there is not more fanfic about Toshiki in English. No doubt this will change when we hit that portion of the GB anime. No doubt this will change for the better when we hit the Cards Arc in the manga (and I can't wait for that).

I'm pleased that you're finding that the story works, and recognising the Specialist, and other such fun things. ;) I do indeed have a fairly large-scale plot in mind, and hopefully it'll all work out.

Though I should warn you that given I have a freelance writing assignment and am moving house up to Leeds in the near future, things are likely to slow down a bit for a while. Sorry.

"Put this on." Ban passed Ginji the anorak and balaclava.

"I'm not sure," Ginji protested, dangling the clothing between his fingers like a particularly repellent wet newspaper. "Don't you think it'll attract even more attention than it would for us to be just going in there?"

"We've already been through this," Himiko snapped, doing up the zip on her own anorak in a single angry movement. "The moment we take a single step in there with you recognisable, they're all going to start screaming Raitei Amano Ginji, Raitei Amano Ginji. Just like last time." She picked up the remaining balaclava on the table. "I don't know about you, but I don't think that makes for a quiet retrieval mission."

"The brat's got it," Ban said, snatching the balaclava from her fingers and forcing it down over her head. Muffled noises came from behind the wool. "And if Miroku Natsuhiko hears she's coming, that blows our mission too. And the same for me."

"But, Ban-chan," Ginji protested, "you may be wearing a balaclava, but you're still wearing your glasses."

Ban adjusted his purple shades with one finger. It made it clear that the question of his removing them was not open to discussion.

"And Akabane-san . . ."

"Yes, Ginji-kun?" Akabane queried politely as Ginji trailed off.

"Never mind," Ginji muttered, and pulled the balaclava on over his blond hair.

Re: ARAL! and 'Opening The WAy'
A balaclava?! But wouldn't that make them more suspicious? Wait, my mistake there are much weirder people where they are going.

And I am enjoying this. SO very much. Finding good GB fics on people that I'm interested in (or just good GB fics period) is damn hard.

Oh yes, when the manga get to Card Arc... *laughs* You can't deny the kiss ^_^

So far I'm still amazed by the scale of things you are aiming for. You pretty much have brought in everyone that is important to an Infinite City plot. Ohh, I can't wait, but I'll always wait for a good piece ^_^ Hope your move will be relatively uneventful.

Re: ARAL! and 'Opening The WAy'
Clearly Ban thinks that three balaclava-clad types in anonymous anoraks are going to attract less attention than . . . okay, so it's a stupid idea, but this is our invincible Ban-sama suggesting it.

Delighted that you're enjoying it. A couple more series regulars (or at least series occasionals) are slated to make an appearance, but haven't shown up yet. ;) It's meant to be a largish plotline, which probably means that I'll be tearing out my hair near the end as I try to get all the threads into one hairbell, so to speak.

(As to why they want Toshiki, and what's going on, and who's behind it . . . heh heh heh. Let's just say that Babylon City had its own reasons for taking an interest in Lucifer's work . . .)

Re: ARAL! and 'Opening The WAy'
All too true. The Invincible Ban-sama Sees All and Knows All. That obviously include fashion accessory.

Ohhh. Shido perhaps? Hevn? Or maybe Clayman? Can't wait. I can imagine the stress that will be settling in when you try to juggle all the plot lines together. Hell, just the hints are driving me crazy. I mean if the bad guys kidnapped Ren as well... things are just so fascinating. But the way you are presenting, revealing things are perfect, and it is always such an experience reading your stories. *happiness*

.... Let's just say that Babylon City had its own reasons for taking an interest in Lucifer's work . . .)

The brain is overloading. Barring the dead and all, I need to re-read the whole Arc again. Brain washing, witch blood and binging back the dead. It was such a fun arc. Need to re-fresh on the small (and large) details.

Re: ARAL! and 'Opening The WAy'
Hevn's already been on stage (briefly) but will doubtless be back. Shido, Emishi, and Other People should turn up eventually.

I'm glad you're enjoying all the threads so much. ;)

I'm pondering whether or not to give you a hint as to one of the big themes underlying the story. Do you want it, or not?

Re: ARAL! and 'Opening The WAy'
I'm currently leaning towards something to do with Ban's witch blood, which of course, Toshiki have now in his system. Though, I'm not sure how that work on a purely biological level.

And yes, that means a hint will be lovely ^_^ One question, will Himiko playing more of a role? As I keep on thinking you are somehow leaning towards the mythtical (the Vodoo Twin curse/prophecy thing) even though I know it is Babylon City.

This is fascianting stuff ^_^

Re: ARAL! and 'Opening The WAy'
(looks innocent) No comment, re Ban's witch blood. Though that is indeed an interesting thought.

It is no doubt purely a coincidence that Rena is currently having strange dreams.

Yes, Himiko has a role to play.

And hints... hm. Voodoo is drawing the gods down. The original Tower of Babylon was reaching up to Heaven. What might Brains Trust want to call down, and how might they do it?

(And for extra credit; how much of the GetBackers current actions over the last day/night could have been reasonably planned/expected, given a good knowledge of their habits and careful funnelling of information?)

Re: ARAL! and 'Opening The WAy'
...... what wouldn't they want to call down would be more appropriate. The only thing that comes to mind is perhaps another Raitei Tantei, a living god. But that theory is more clouded by my own private musings of the series. Considering the original Tower of Babylon was destroyed you'd think maybe they would know better.

And yes, the GetBackers if nothing else are extremely predictable in their actions. Ohhh. mass manipulation. Now I really can't wait!

Well... I'll try to get there as fast as I can. ;) And when has "the last attempt failed and resulted in total destruction" ever stopped your typical megalomaniac scientists/planners?

Thanks. ;)

Have you read the newer fantasy books? Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls? Especially PoS, which has yet another totally kick-ass woman as the main character. *lovelovelove*

I HAVE!! And OMG! The LOVE! The LOVE Iselle! (Iselle and her man!Toy *koffs*), I adore Cazaril (so much humility.) I love her ability to create these amazing female characters who are not physically strong but their inner strength, their will pushes them forward. The fact that she writes about characters over the age of 30 makes me that much happier. Young heroes, pish, True protagonist are Mature! (Miles is the exception as he always is).

I'm now waiting for the third book in the series. Apparently it is a desert setting. Can't wait to learn more about the land.

Have you read [livejournal.com profile] ajhalluk's HP crossover with Barrayar-verse?

Bujod fans of the world, UNITE!

YES! And I'm so happy everyone was in character. Mark was Mark, and Miles was overly dramatic for everyone involved. Love it to bits.
