Miles Vorkosigan

"I saved the dirt." - Lord Miles Vorkosigan to his future wife in Komarr.

I have issues. Yes, I do. But at least I'm trying to work through them, now. And I can finally relax after three weeks of none stop stress and work.

Have been reading Lois McMaster Bujold. In the past two days have gone through Komarr, A Civil Campaign and Memory. Imperial Auditor Miles Vorkosigan is like no other fictional character I have ever encountered before. In a completely good way. He's complex, intelligent, and damn blind at times. But the man tries damn hard. There's just so many things about the dwarf that I adore to bits. And let's not forget the rest of the cast. Mile's amazing parents, The Count and Countess Aral Vorkosigan and Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan. You can't help but respect the Count, but it's Cordelia that you want to please. Oh, and Simon Illyan! How can anyone NOT like the old man. Over 50 years of intrigue and running an intelligence agency with a questionable inheritance of office system. LOVE!

And lastly, Lord Mark Vorkosigan. What can you say about Mark that wouldn't be highly conflicting and coming out sounding wrong? Mark is Miles legal brother, though he is Miles' clone. Raised as a weapon against the Vorkosigan and being forced to be like Miles and not himself.... Mark have a Thing when it comes to Miles. Not the friendly thing, but more like a hate Thing though that does get resolved. Despite everything, you can't help but love the fat (a way to deal), greedy (successful), little (in order to look like Miles) man.

LOVE this SERIES!!!!!

*runs off to read Paladin of Souls*

[EDIT: And I can't believe I had forgotten Ivan "You idiot" Vorpatril. LOVE the MAN! LOVE! Even if he's forever stuck in the phase of 16-yr-old teenager. But how can you not love a man who's just so idiotically likable (but seriously he isn't stupid, Ivan have moments of sheer brilliance, it is just that he's an idiot).]

You didn't mention Ivan "You idiot" Vorpatril. I may not forgive you for that. *grins*

The Vorkosagin series is an AMAZING read. Lois McMaster Bujold is a literary god of the highest order.

And dude, you're susposed to read Curse of Chalion first.

(Have you read Mirror Dance yet? Its good in a rip-your-heart-out-and-step-on-it way.)

I can't believe I forgot Ivan. FORGIVE ME!

Though I wonder if he'll ever get married, the man have absolutely no luck with women (even if it is his own fault). His mother is AMAZING!!!

It is! I have been obsessed with this series for just over a year, but this is the first time where I had the chance to sit and just immerse myself fully in her writing. Her talent is amazing.

I have already read The Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls, this is my fifth (sitth?) re-read of the novel. Love Cazaril to bits, the man in comparison to Miles is much nicer(?). And Ista! OMFG! Ista *cries* I feel for the woman!

I haven't being able to get my hands on Mirror Dance or Diplomatic Immunity, and it is DRIVING me MAD! But have no fear I have ordered myself a copy of each, and they shall come sometime int he next two weeks or so ^__^V

Yes, the Lady Vopatril is wonderful.....though its no wonder Ivan turned into such a flake being raised under that thumb. Too lazy for his own good. I don't know about marriage for Ivan. It would take a particular breed of woman to grap and hold him. (And the Kou girls are the only ones who coulda done it, cept they're taken!)

My dad had been harbing the series at me for years; I fought him on it for the longest time because I'm not a big fan military sci-fi. I finally picked up Curse of Chalion a couple years back and devoured it in a day, and moved on to Cetagandan cause at that point I would have done anything for more of Lois's writing.

Cazaril is....not so deep as Miles is. Not that he's shallow, its just that at any given time, Miles seems to be thinking of at least fifty different things at once. Caz is a more linear and certainly more spiritial. I know, poor Ista! At least she finds her happiness again.

There's going to be another book in the Chalion universe. Not in Chalion itself, but in one of the neighboring countries. I got to hear a chapter or so of it when I went to the Paladin of Souls booksigning, and its got mad princes, animal possession, and a muder mystery. I can hardly wait!

Anyone living under the thumb of Lady Vorpatril would turn out to be either unbelievably brilliant (and manipulative) or highly dysfunctional. Ivan seem to be a bit of both (though not to the extreme, almost as if he's trying to avoid responsibility... actually, I'm pretty sure he's trying to avoid responsibility)^^;;; And you are right, a special kind of woman is needed to tie down Ivan, and the ones who could tie him down had much more sense ^^;;;

I have known about the series for quite a bit but I have to admit it was only last year when I picked up Memory, and I fell in love with the series (and Lois!!). Soon after I read Curse of Chalion and the rest is pretty much history. The thing that strikes me about Caz is his humility and his willigness to trust and belief... mind you after what happened to him on the slave ship I think Caz, if not broken, is at least more receptive to things. But yes, Caz is definitely more linear and less of a control freak. I can't remember where I read it, but Miles is the type that when you ask for a sandwich would take over the kictchen -_-;;;

And Ista!! Happiness for her. A God who have a sense of humour, and a future husband who's HOT!! ^_^

Ohhhhh. New book, MAD PRINCES? POSSESSION? MURDER? Oh, I CAN'T WAIT!

IIRC, the working title is The Hallowed Hunt.

You know there's a Bujold mailing list, right?

Sometimes she even posts to it.

She's not just a good author, she's classy.

Saving Diplomatic Immunity for last?
Or just not wanting to touch that one at all?

Heh, I like Mark more than Miles at this point. Oh, and Ivan. I second. How can you forget him!?

No, no. Biting my nails and praying that my local book store will have my copy in two weeks time (that and 'Mirror Dance').

Mark is just interesting. At times he's like a shy child (which is completely understandable), yet he's also one of the few people who sees the faults of others. He's just so -fascinating-.

I haven't forgotten him, I just forgot to write him down... forgive me? *puppy eyes*

I wanted to post it on Nark Nark when I have something a bit more coherent than 'OMFG! I LOVE Lois McMAster Bujold'! Or 'OMFG Miles is sooooo COOL!'

'cos you know the whole entry is pretty much an exercise in pure fangirl-ism ^^;;;

Lois is Love. Oh yes, indeed.

*huge eyes* You haven't read Mirror Dance? It's one of the best of the series, and you'll love Mark even more afterwards. And it has the line about Miles' girlfriends partitioning him by treaty--North Miles and South Miles...

I love Lois so very much.

Miles' girlfriends partitioning him by treaty--North Miles and South Miles...

*laughs*

But you have to admit Miles' taste in women (barring his wife) are all very, uhh, Amazonian. Love them to bits, but would hate to be on the wrong end of their anger.

.... and from what I gathered in A Civil Campaign, Mark's meeting with Miles' girlfriend(S) weren't exactly, uhh friendly. I LOVE Mark. I do!

YES! Oh he does. Ivan is just wonderful. Though I admit his reaction to his mother's possible relation with ImpSec was highly amusing. Poor ivan.
