Never seen 'Star Wars'

Realistically speaking I know there are people out there who haven't seen the origial Star Wars, or even know much about the storyline beyond the fact that it's about duels, but it is always a surprise to find out someone you know is one of them. I've always taken it for granted that if you're an English speaker and is relatively in touch with popular culture that Star Wars is something you would have seen.

Behind my bitterness at the new SW films, and the relative time distance I last saw the origial trilogy, SW is something that'll be forever part of my childhood and to an cetain extend is a hallmark to my enjoyment of cetain genera. I remember the first time I ever saw any of SW. It was Return of the Jedi, and I remember being intrigued by it (not knowing that is was the last ten minutes of the film) wondering who everyone was and what was happening. I didn't know any of those things, but it didn't matter, because without knowing anthing about the history of the characters I had fallen in love with SW.

And well, the rest is history, I hunted down the rest of the film a year later and watched all of it over ten times and since then have watched it everytime it's shown on tv. I read the books up till they kille doff Chewiwe, I can talk about the series with fans for hours and once in awhile I'm reminded of why I love the original films so much.

This entry really didn't have any point except to talk about my love of SW and my disbelief that there are people out there who haven't seen the original series. Emotionally it is just not making any sense.

I don't know if you feel the same way...
...but the 2 newest Star Wars movies piss me off. They're such a far cry from the original trilogy. *cries* I watched A New Hope and The Return of the Jedi so many times I could recite the lines.

Re: I don't know if you feel the same way...
I do, I do. I have so much bitterness aimed toward the new films that I can write a bloody book on my disappointment at them. The worst thing though, is not their crap factor nor their blatant attempt at cashing in on the SW universe. It's the fact that the films have made me indifferent at the prospect of the third SW film. I just really don't care anymore. Yeah, we get to see how Darth Vader comes to be, we get to see how the Jedi become extinct, but damn it I just can't seem to summon up the excitment at the prospect.

Yet, depspite all the crap associateed with the first two films I'm probably going to see the third film anyway, 'cos, you know this is SW, and just maybe, just maybe it'll be like the original films. I can dream.
