On my re-watching of SPN - finished Wendigo, Route 666 and Shadows). And wow – Sam was so skinny, Dean was so excited about everything, and there was this sense of a grand ol' adventure, whereas now it is death, damnation and the stakes are about a thousandth times more deadly then season 1. It is really amazing just how different season 1 and 2 are – in both the external and the internal sense. Emotionally I think Dean and Sam are in a completely different head space than what they were in s1, thematically their journey should have ended at the end of IMTOD, except in many ways it is just the beginning of their story. I love how SPN is not afraid to change, to tackle the consequences of its actions [success of the tackling still under observation], nor afraid to push the boundary on, let's admit it here, a very teenager-oriented network.
It has been pointed out numerous times that Sam and Dean have pretty much done a 180 in their personalities for most of s2 in relation to their s1 personalities. However, it is interesting to note that in the last couple of episodes of s2 they are beginning to become a bit more s1 in their reactions. Dean hitting on chicks once more, and Sam being all about a purpose – but each of them is less, mm, I'm trying to think of a word and all I can think of is 'innocent', which dude, is kind of bizarre to describe Dean or Sam. John dying, telling Dean that he has to either safe or kill Sam, Dean being pulled in 2 directions, and Sam finding out about his supposedly 'evil' destiny is doing absolutely intriguing things for the Winchesters. However, presently Dean seem to be finding his footing once more, hence the hitting on chicks, while Sam is being pulled between OK one minute and completely off the rails in the next – recent possession by Meg just is just the tip of the iceberg. So much love
It is like watching two different shows. ♥!
