This and the last episode has drawn similar reactions from me - huh. It could have been great but what it ended up being was a mixture of clumsy direction, choppy storyline, and yet the episode had an excellent theme, hence the huh reaction.

The evolution of the Daleks through the new series has been fascinating, though I am slightly disappointed that they have become almost mundane, as opposed to absolutely terrifying in season 1. The shift from an alien species that is all about death and destruction to this almost mad grasping at straws desperation – it is both sad and somewhat humbling. They know that they must evolve, that as a race they must change or die, yet they are only willing to change up to a point.

The Tenth Doctor – well, what a ride it has been for the dissection of his character. He yells to be killed by the Daleks, and is stunned when the Dalek changed their minds. Unable not to offer help to last of the Dalek – because he has seen enough genocide and refuses to be responsible for anymore. A repeat from s1 of the Ninth Doctor on that station, unable to destroy a whole race, and that is something I am forever grateful that the writers kept as part of the Doctor. The way that Tennant delivered that line killed me, because yes, he is tired of it all, to be the one left to carry on while others perish.

Also, - Martha says, "Just proves it; there's someone for everyone," and the Doctor looks away and says 'maybe'. The smiles were gone and that horrible grief settles in, because he honestly believes he is alone, and the way he was attempting to throw away his life in this episode – just, my heart breaks for him.

Oh, and Martha just keeps on getting better.
