LJ, the future - migration and so forth

I'm extremely fascinated by the current trend in fandom ala LJ. Fandom existed before LJ and will exist post-LJ, it isn't LJ that makes me stay with the service, is the people. If they leave I leave.

Signs of migration are occurring, and while I don't think it is going to happen overnight it is inevitable that like the forums, the mailing lists and the old geocities sites, migration will happen. The question is - where to? What is the next platform? Will fans spend money to create the fandom-equivalent of LJ, and only for fandom? (I actually think this is highly likely). The future is going to be interesting, and I honestly do believe migration will happen if LJ continue on the same vein. LJ's stance on fan-creativity is blurry, and when they do act it is often with very little consideration on their customers behalf. Yes, I know they are a corporation who are out there to make money, and that they have all rights to act in whatever manner suits them to make them said money. However, the way LJ has handled the customers who are fans has been truly bad. Clusterfuck comes to mind.

Anyways, for now - http://www.fandom411.com/
Go and add yourself in, sooner or later we will probably be using it.

If all my friends and communities move, I'll definitely be moving to where they are as well. The first and probably only reason I got an LJ was for the ease of keeping up with my friends, so if they're all gone it makes no sense to have an LJ anymore.

The annoying thing right now is that not only does LJ lack a clear policy on what they are trying to do, they are once again deleting journals with fictional contents in them, a clear 180 degrees turnabout from their earlier stand to leave fandom journals alone.

If there is a mass exodus planned and my people are involved in it, I'll move along. But for now, I'm sticking here where all my friends and communities are. In a way, I'm glad my fandoms hardly involve underage characters (DCU, Heroes). On the other hand, the HP fandom may be in for a big haul away to a friendlier journaling community just because of the age of their fandom characters.

Come on, LJ. Issue a statement already!

I'm pretty much with you when it comes to fandom (SPN: all over the age of consent), and I'm here because of the people. However, I'm also highly aware that not speaking up when there is a need to can lead to worlds of pain, and would like to avoid that if I can. So, while I'm lazy (I like my creature comforts and the ease of reading my flist), I'm perfectly happy to move if LJ crosses any more lines.

The way LJ has handled themselves on the matter of fictional content and deleting journals smack as stupidity.

There's a rumour going around that it was Warner Bros that demanded LJ to remove the offending artists, because it just seemed to suspicious that the 2 artists targeted were drawing:
1) Harry Potter p0rn, and
2) Harry Potter slash.

If this really is the case, I'd like LJ to come clean with it and give us the real explanation.

That would make more sense. And honestly I rather they come clean that it was a matter of protecting themselves rather than stupidity. The former is much more acceptable than the latter.
