naanima: ([Doctor Who] Timelord)
So, finally saw Voyage of the Damned - the 2007 Doctor Who Christmas special. Not exactly the best episode, but like all DW Christmas specials it reveal much about the Doctor's psyche.

So, about 25 minutes in or so when the Doctor loses his temper and vents out his identity; Time Lord, age and everything else, and then a bit later on he actively talks about the fact that he was homeless a few years back. It says much about his present psyche that he's willing to reveal so much about himself to strangers when it took Martha many an episode to get everything out from him. Rewind back to last year and there was no way in hell he would have talked about anything that would be considered personal.

See, the thing is the Doctor has healed, or is on his way to healing from the loss of his home and Rose. Season 1 and 2 was about healing from the loss of Gallifrey with the help of Rose - it is fair to say the Doctor was bitter and grief stricken, and it was only because of Rose that he managed to get better. season 3 was about mourning the loss of Rose, healing from it, realising that he is still the Doctor, the last of the Time Lords. I honestly believe that season 4 will be about the Doctor being the Doctor rather than someone working through a personal crisis ala season 1 to 3. The question is - just who is the Doctor?

Also; "Take me to your leader. I have always wanted to say that."

The preview of season 4 – GLEE! I’m really excited about the new season of Doctor Who.

I definitely see what you're saying. He was immediately more comfortable with Astrid than with Martha. His mourning is slowly coming to an end. That being said, if he really just is next season - what'll happen when Rose returns? Will all that healing come undone? That is what I'd like to know!

Do you by any chance know when the next season is officially starting?

I have no idea, and that's what's brilliant about the show. How the Doctor reacts may be wholly dependent on whether the Rose that returns is the Rose that the Doctor knows. The other thing with Rose is that the Doctor never got to say a proper goodbye, yes he burnt out a sun to speak to her but he never got the chance to say those 3 words. It is really hard to articulate what I want to say - I think Rose was/is one of those individuals that will always hold a big part of the Doctor's heart(s). However, a lots of it was due to who he was at the time he met Rose; heart broken, half mad with grief and anger. Rose made the universe beautiful again, Rose made the Doctor feel as if he wasn't alone, the Doctor needed Rose.

The problem now is I don't think the Doctor need Rose anymore, not saying that he doesn't love her anymore, just - *wild hand gestures*. Also, consider the fact that Doctor seem to have internalised the fact that he is meant to be alone (especially now that the Master had died in his arms rather than stay with him). I have NO idea!!!

And let's not forget the female hand that picked up the Master's ring at the end of season 3.

*bites nails* I really want to know what happens.

And unfortunately I don't have a clue when the show will be back. I know that traditionally DW starts in spring but with the delay in production - god knows.
