The Dark Knight

Just came back from watching the Dark Knight. Before I go any farther I’d like to say that I went into the film completely unspoiled and less than enthusiastic. The previews made the film look boring, which it isn’t by any means, and Batman Begins while not a bad film, was um, kind of dull at times. Anyway, overall Dark Knight is a well made film. Not exceptional but a good solid film, congratulations Mr. Nolan.

- Heath Ledger nails it as the Joker. There is something to be said about an actor’s talent when you recognise the character he is portraying from his stance and movement. The Joker has this walk that is cross between a pigeon and a drunkard. It is both stilted and fluid and you can’t miss it.

- The Joker. He is awesome; vicious, funny, ruthless and completely insane. The whole hospital scene where he is decked out as a nurse; wig, uniform, black socks and those shoes. Just awesome.

- The Joker just enjoying what he is doing. He is having a ball throughout the whole film, and the DIFFERENT stories of how he got the scars make me giggle every single time.

- Joker beating batman with a crowbar. A damn crowbar. Hello Jason.

- Jim Gordon. I LOVE Gary Oldman! I swear, Ledger and Oldman made the film for me.

- The ship(s) scene was done well. Depicting humanity in a good light after spending nearly 2 hours on how people are selfish blah blah blah was kind of nice.

- Harvey Dent is beautifully played by Aaron Eckhart. You want to believe in Dent because he is truly all that is Good, and it kind of hurts when he is twisted into something that is so insane.

- Harvey and Bruce’ relationship – hello slash.

- Luscious Fox – YES to moral standards.

- Love that the film is not so much about Batman so much as the people of Gotham, I love that to bits.

- The script was clunky at parts, which sucked, because most it was good therefore when it was bad it really dragged the whole thing down.

- Maggie Gyllenhall was wasted in the role of Rachel Dawes. Once again let’s kill the only main female character in a practically all male cast to forward the plot. Maggie Gyllenhall did wonders with what she had, which wasn’t really much.

- Gordon loving his son to the exclusion of all else. You have a DAUGHTER! Love how the film just skimmed over that detail (all sarcasm meant). Also, you do NOT just fucking gloss over Barbara fucking Gordon. One of the MOST fucking important characters in the Batman verse.

- The MONOLUING! STOP THE FUCKING MONOLOGUING!

In conclusion, a film that should be viewed on the big screen at least once, if only to see Ledger’s performance as the Joker, which is just awesome.

I'm thinking they must have skipped over Barbara Gordon intentionally. Her face is never even shown.
