Ruby and Sam

I really like this Ruby, I prefer her over the previous one from last season. I like characters that have more than one emotion. As much as I liked the snark I wanted a character that had a bit more depth. This Ruby fits that bill.

I find Ruby and Sam’s relationship to be absolutely fascinating because I can actually believe in it. Well, I believe that Sam can form a relationship with this Ruby that is based on necessity and desperation. Despair can pull people into relationships that they would never ever imagine.

Yes, I do believe Sam and Ruby are still sleeping together; not often and not because of love, but because sometime sex is a way to feel and a way to release all that pent up emotion. The closest two people can get is when they are having sex. It isn’t about trust, it is about physical comfort.

Ruby is different from the other demons because she remembers being human. But it doesn’t mean she is good or that she wouldn’t do horrendous things to complete her goal. She is in a shitty position because she remembers what it felt like to have compassion while all the other demons forget. This isn’t about feeling bad for what she has done since becoming a demon; it is about remembering what it was like when she was human. And that sucks because I think Ruby want that back (humanity), but she can’t get it back because demons are different from humans; demons experience emotions and perceive situations in different ways. Demons are hardwired to be selfish, to want to cause pain, and Ruby the Demon likes causing pain but she wants more, and she remembers having it when she was human.

The question is whether Ruby is helping Sam because she think Sam can make her human, or at the very least make her more than she is, make her closer to what she was. Or perhaps she has thrown her lot in with Sam because Sam with his demon blood and his human soul is the closest thing to a demon that can remember what it felt like being human.

No matter the reason I do believe that Ruby will continue to help Sam. However, it would not surprise me if she drops Sam if someone else were to appear on the scene with similar abilities like Sam. Except I think, well, I think Ruby’s redemption (if the writers choose that route and not death) is somehow tied in with Sam’s destiny. That in order for Ruby to be human again, or at the very least enter heaven, she will need to save Sam not because it will benefit her but because saving Sam means he lives. I don’t know whether she will ever love Sam in human terms, but I think she can grow fond of him, and maybe that will transfer into wanting to do the right thing.

In the meantime I love Sam and Ruby’s relationship.

I cite wanting to sacrifice the virgin.

*flails in your general direction* that is genius.

saving Sam means he lives I think it's really interesting that that's the conclusion that the writers almost want us to reach, especially from last episode. It also raises the question: if Sam is alive but twisted, is he still "saved"?

As always, I love reading your meta!
