Domestic Incidents

naanima: ([POTC] Run AWAY!)
So, mum's television died yesterday; no smoke or screeching noise this time, it just died. I no longer have a TV as she has appropriated mine in turn.

The vacuum cleaner just died 20 minutes ago in a smoking heap.

The death of domestic appliances during the past 16 years in our household; 4 televisions, one computer, 2 exploding light bulbs and 1 vacuum cleaner. Mum and I are pretty sure my television won't last too long.

So, awesome friend-list, how do I go about converting my computer in an Entertainment centre, TV reception and all?

What operating system are you running, do you want access to just regular television and how much are you willing to spend?

Vista Ultimate. There is more than regular television?

Anything more $300 and I may as well buy an LCD. So, less than $300.

well i didn't know if you needed access to satellite or whatever.

Well the good news is that vista comes with a media center built in and all you'll really need to get is a decent tv-capture card.

Something like this (http://ple.com.au/?p=snapshot&inventory_id=36691) would be perfect as it seamlessly integrates into the media center but any tv-capture care that can receive digital tv (DVB-T) would probably work as well.
