The casting is superb.

The first 5 mins left me in tears (I blame hormones).

The introduction of the characters left me breathless.

The humour was spot-on.

The Enterprise, oh, the Enterprise.

I need to re-watch this.

ETA:I would have never imagined 'Live long and prosper' can sound like 'Fuck you.'

I loved how its use in the film was in that context!

Yeah, the casting was pretty much spot on. Simon Pegg was wonderful as Scotty.

Totally getting the DVD when it comes out.

I made so much squeaky noises when the lines was delivered in that context. Just awesome.

Yes, Simon Pegg was awesome! He made me laugh out loud. Also, Urban as McCoy was amazing!

Yes! DVD! Actually, I need to rewatch this as soon as possible.

It is the BEST THING EVER!

I wouldn't rank it above Iron Man, but by the gods it is damn close. Also, I have FICS saved on my delicious account.

http://delicious.com/naanima (the tag I'm using is f:startrek).

I'm going to see it, again. Either tonight or tomorrow night! And potentially a third time. EEEE!

It was awesome and I must watch it again! And I have no icons for this but they would be all about Sulu or Pike, or Kirk getting himself beaten up again, if I did.

I would have never imagined 'Live long and prosper' can sound like 'Fuck you.'
:DDD Pretty cool moment, even if the sweater he was wearing was an unholy mix of Ned Flanders and some dude who lives in a 1970s/'80s farmhouse with bare brick walls inside and a pin-up girl calendar in the kitchen.

YES! Just YES! Kirk getting himself beaten up was so hot. *Fans self*. It is absolutely ridiculous what bruised Kirk doed to my hind brain.

Have you had a chance to read the fics yet? If not my http://delicious.com/naanima account have startrek recs. This fandom is awesome!

OMFG! The sweater reminded of those really horrid 70s/80s fantasy/sci-fi prison sweaters... kind of. But yes, just really kind of bad. But man, baby!Spock is awesome!

I'm still struggling with the big question of the movie: is Kirk suicidal, or is he just as delusionally sure of himself as he appears? :D

I will have to check that out! The only thing I've seen from that list is The Helmsman (Sulu!), but maybe I can branch out, check up on Spock or something.

He is so cute! Although what will people use to make him angry now that his mum's dead? That's the problem with killing off characters needlessly - you make it that much harder to get Spock to lose his cool.

My pet theory is that Kirk, as a child, was brilliant, intelligent, charming and pretty darn invincible, but Kirk wants more, more than Iowa, more than a farm or the step dad, so Kirk pushed for more. Kirk wanted to be something great, something bigger than himself but he just couldn't find it. So he put himself in all these highly dangerous situations in the hope of finding something that will fulfill him. Adrenaline helps, but it leaves, so he had to keep on pushing the envelope. Perhaps not suicidal so much as a complete disregard for his own personal safety in the hope finding that something that can fill up that need he has in him.

Oh, I adore The Helmsman, there are a few other Sulu pieces. The fandom is full of awesome gen fics.

But mother issues is like the gift that never stop giving! Also, I'm sure Kirk and Uhura are going to be really big buttons for him ^__^.

I see what you're saying (and, yeah, that would fit for most of the movie, why he does what he does), but he doesn't even fight back most of the time! He picks a fight or volunteers for one, and then sits back for the beating. Even ignoring his fight with Spock, since he had good reason not to fight back there (although if it were me I might have tried to block one or two of those blows; probably I'm a wimp), he basically folds and lets them go for it once they get first blood. What? Is he testing his endurance? Is this a damsel in distress angle aimed at getting in white knight types' pants?

Haha, probably. (I love Uhura so much. And she's a linguist! She knows 85 dialects/languages!) But still, his mum was basically his only trigger up till now; there was no need to break it like that. Maybe the moviemakers didn't want him to get too far into his human side, what with rejecting the V. academy for Starfleet & having mostly human friends and colleagues - and with that unlikely to change much, now.
