Spooks

So, in the process of re-watching Spooks with the commentary (I am, at least, consistent with my obsessions) I found out some really interesting things. First off, I feel sorry for all the American viewers, a 59 (and some seconds) minutes episode getting cut down to 44 (and some seconds) minutes episode must hurt the plot line in a major way. The DVD box set provide additional deleted scenes on top of the 59 minutes episodes, and I still feel that there can be more in both plot and characterisation. I don't know how you guys deal with the 44 minutes episodes.

1.6 & 2.1 – Tom get naked! *laughs* honestly, the scene between him and Macann was both funny and creepy. Just how paranoid are these people? *Thinks about it* OK, stupid question, but my point still hold, to strip down completely before you’d talk to each other just shows how paranoid and seriously these people take their jobs. Of course, their jobs are often tied in to their survival so it does make a sick kind of sense.

Going over Harry to get the job done! *Happy squee*, especially the old-geezer that he goes to see. The obvious examination in the background and his final words to Tom is a classic (it was along the lines of getting his prostate examined, so it would be very good if Tom was to leave).

Also, from the point of Tom getting bagged and dumped into the trunk of Macann’s car, he begins to have one of the shittiest and longest days in his life. The bomb scare, clean-up of the Irish, the Serbs, and of course his girlfriend walking out on him. It looked long and terribly tiring. Sure, I was feeling sorry for him, but I was agreeing a bit too much with the directors about how wonderful it was that the cast got a change in wardrobe.

2.2 – Doctor Bashir, I presume! What? I have wanted to type that since I saw the episode. Anyways, it was, mm, an ok episode. Yes, it hit several marks, but it just didn’t feel like Spooks to me, it is a good episode, it is just that I have certain expectations of Spooks and it just didn’t fit all of them. Though it was really cool to have Doctor Bashir be a super spy, and I loved how he took down Tom with one hit to the chest.

The commentary for this episode was good because it proves to me that the writers loved Tom too! There was a lots of comments about Tom and his shiny suit that he wears to get into the Mosque, that he looked like some 1950’s film star) I whole-heartedly agree). Also, love the fact that one of the directors kept on trying to film Tom with lots of crosses motifs, though he had no idea why he did either.

That’s it, I love this series.

For RL people… I have 3 mid-semester, 2 reports and 2 meetings I need to prepare for next week.

So, um, next Tuesday evening? Like 6PM or 6:30PM?
