The thing with this show is that it can be great and in fact manages to reach greatness in scenes that blows my mind away. However, despite the greatness it stumbles over itself at times by a forced script. This is utterly frustrating as the series proves over and over again that it can reach a height of shiny goodness that makes me happy in a way that only 4 cans of beer and much food can do.
Dean is just amazing; his strength, his vulnerability, and his love for his family. The thing about his characterisation that fascinate me to no end is the role of the peace keeper that he plays between John and Sam because it is different from how he normally is yet makes perfect sense in hind sight.
Example of a moment that should have worked but didn't: The conversation between John and Sam about the college fund to me, felt forced. Don't get me wrong, loved the idea of John selling the fund to buy ammo (it is so him), it was the other stuff in the conversation that made me want to scream and throw my Hello Kitty head at the computer monitor. The Winchester men don't talk about their feelings, at least not in that much details. John as a bleeding heart don't work, and because of it I couldn't fully buy the conversation, which is frustrating because the college fund and the ammo was so John yet all the other crap made the whole scene utterly jarring for me when I should have believed every single word he said.
The whole Meg thing when it was first introduced made me wince because it was a bit too explicit, in the story telling method, for me to enjoy. Talking to a cup of blood was kind of stupid and was beyond cheese (I DIDN'T want to KNOW about the father-daughter relationship, at least NOT so soon, they could've waited till John-as-demon told Dean about the father-daughter relationship because I'd have been so floored as an audience member, I mean more floored then I was during that scene.)
The scenes I LOVED: When the boys meets up with John for the first time. OMFG! The look on Dean's face was just amazing; all that vulnerability flooding to the surface, I mean we all knew it was there but to see it so naked on his face, it is just wow.
Dean calling John during 'Home'. I really can’t say anything because it is just a really beautiful scene because it says so much about Dean, John and Sam despite the fact that the latter 2 are not physically present in the scene.
Dean as the peacekeeper between John and Sam, telling John to back off ("You too.") I wasn't sure if I wanted to squeal in joy or duck for cover. What I loved about it is that is was obviously something that use to happen quite a bit, Dean was prepared, and John and Sam just backed with a few evil looks with no property damage, which was the thing that surprised me the most.
Sam and every single scene with John (yes, even the scene about the college fund) because you can feel the anger, the frustration and the love between father and son. All the biting comments, all the shouting, and then all the trust between the two. The look on Sam's face when Dean voiced the fact that John was alive after finding the man on the bed is just indescribable.
The whole cabin scene at the end of Devil's Trap. I'm not even sure where to start on all the reasons of why I love that whole scene. Sam's anger and frustration, Dean's complete trust in their father (and not being able to shoot the gun when he had the chance), and demon-as-John's sheer enjoyment of the whole thing. So much going on and the look on Dean’s face when Sam had the colt pointed towards John. Yeah, I was happy alright.
More to say, but need to study, talk later.

About that scene, I love the fact that the 3 of them play off each other so brilliantly, it is just beautiful.
YES! I SCREAMED LIKE A LITTLE GIRL! OMFG! THAT WAS LIKE OMFG! OMFG! OMFG!
Yeah, I made totally embarrasing squealing noises and started clawing at my desk, it was pretty awesome. BEST CLIFFHANGER EVAR.
I was completely not prepared for it. The whole thing was so unexpected that my brain went wh- and the screaming started.
