Supernatural meta?

So, um, my mood has been completely haywire lately; one minute I’d be euphoric, the next I’d be swallowing down homicidal rage. The point is I’m very likely to stab someone in the eye with a serrated blade just because their voice is irritating. I’m kinda antsy.

Also, Supernatural has pretty much ate every, single, part of my brain that is dedicated to fandom. I am reading Meta (so many smart people that I’ve not seen in ONE fandom for years now; I remember the days of HL fandom) Gen, Het, RPS and Winncest, as long as it is Supernatural I’ll read it. This fandom has broken some of my major squick factors. I’d feel guilty except I’m so loving it that it is kind of hard to feel even a smidgen of shame let along guilt.

The thing is, as a show Supernatural has a wealth of potential for back-story, world building and so forth. Because while their world is contemporary and very like ours, it is edgier, lined with cracks that that can be filled with the shared fears and dreams of the modern world. It is like an alternative world where the supernatural bleeds into reality but not fill it up, just enough to color it, to make it alien yet still undeniably ours (or close enough to it that it is hard to tell the difference). That sense of other yet familiar makes me want to submerge myself into the series (and boy have I).

I’m a huge fan of things that are slightly strange, that are not the norm, I love shows that deal with the paranormal, yet is firmly rooted in reality (what’s the point of something so alien that you can’t relate to?) or a at least a recognizable setting. This would explain my undying love for shows such as X-Files and Angel; it is that sense of the supernatural living along side the norm, set in a world that could be ours but isn’t. Of the two shows, the former becomes a bit too implicit for my taste (yes, I want undeniable truth that there are demons,) while the latter becomes a bit too camp and easy with the use of the supernatural.

Supernatural does this beautiful balancing act by taking out the over the top common-ness of demons vampires, etc., that populated the Angel-verse, and yet still managing to imply that there are bigger evils out there than what the show has introduced so far. One of the reasons the Meg-thing ticked more off was the complete cheese factor of speaking to a cup of blood, which took out the threat, and thus, the fun for me. The lack of a club hosted by friendly demons makes the show scarier, more in touch with the part of brain that makes happy “guh” noises when I watch the show.

There is also a lack of, um, sophistication in the dealing of the supernatural on the show (I suppose it is the gritty factor) that makes me squeal in delight. Homemade EMP-detectors (yeah baby), rock salt shot guns (man, I swear Kripke watched way too much Evil Dead, which is not bad because at least he’s stealing from the good crack.) Homemade kit for exorcisms that are fucking messy and will more often than not go wrong (I die of delight), evil that doesn’t come with fire works (ceiling demon doesn’t count, because ceiling demon is scary ‘cos he reminds me of the candyman, so he can be slightly camp, shut up.) Oh, and the LARGE CANS of SALT, how this show makes me wanna roll in the happiness. Using every-day object to fight evil is just so awesome…hmm, that’d explain my metaphorically hard-on for those gadgets while watching Constantine.

Um, I have this thing that I do every time I go to the shopping centre; I catalogue all the items I can use from the shops, um, if the world was suddenly over-run by zombies and I needed to fight to survive. I kid you not, I do this every-single-time, and I’m telling you there’s tons of weapons out there in the day-to-day living. I pretty much know where the hardware and spots section is at my local shopping centre (and several other major shopping areas), do you?

I need ice-cream.

So I was down at my local Weigh'n'Pay a couple weeks ago and they had a large container of rock salt. I was this close to measuring myself out a kilo just because :3

Before 'Supernatural' it was kitchen utensils, garden tools, and the sports equipment, oh and stuff that can burn things fast, tinned food, etc., post-'Supernatural' on top of the above I go and look for salt, and think of getting those big plastic water containers (that can hold like 10 kilos of water) and filling it with salt.

Man, I love being a gamer.
