2 AUSTRALIAN ENGLISH FOR
bobble hat

bobble hat UK
noun {C} (AUSTRALIAN ENGLISH beanie)
a woollen hat with a small round woollen ball on top

I didn't even know bobble hats were real! I mean the hat I wear every winter is a beanie, it keeps my head warm, which makes me a very happy little girl. You learn something new everyday. My beanie is special though. It is like the equivalent of a Magical disguise. If I put it on my head people suddenly ask me if I’m Japanese, if I leave it off they ask which part of China I’m from. It is one of those things that I’m unsure how to react too, so, after FIVE people, at FIVE difference places asked me whether I was Japanese (and I was out for less than an hour) I have decided bemusement and airhead-smile seem to do the trick. Kind of.

Excuse the blather, the medication I’m on is causing some awesome effects. It always irritates me how fast and hard my immune system tends to crash in the face of cold weather.

And in Canada we call them tuques. Long live the Commonwealth.

Toques... that actually sound respectable. Bobble hats sound like something you'd find on little round mushroom men, and the word beanie brings up a crystal hugging hippie.

Hmm. Well, at least half of the Commonwealth is more laid back than most of the world. Possibly.
