Tom Quinn!

naanima: ([Spooks] Quinn with Gun)
Today has been a novel experience of working while doped on prescribed cold medication. I was completely floozy from 7AM till, while now.

So, I have thought about this, like very, very, very seriously, and I have come to the conclusion that Tom Quinn is a really bad spy, like the WORST SPY EVER! But you know what? I still love him to bits.

+ He got ATTACHED when he SHOULDN’T have!
+ He is a thing of AWESOMENESS when he tries!
+ He has MORALS! And while I know it is right to choose one over the many (save more lives, etc.,), I am one of those people who TRULY WANT to BELIEVE in a ideologist, because I’m not one myself.
+ He gets hurts ALL the time! This makes me particularly happy, h/c!
+ He sucks at relationships! Even if he tries and tries and tries some more.
+ I still believe that he chose to leave MI-5, not just got kicked out, but actively sought a chance to leave, and not in a body bag, or when he’s so fucked up in the head that they wouldn’t have been a point.
+ It is the combination of strength and vulnerability. I am a sucker for certain type of man in fiction. Tom Quinn hits all the buttons.
+ He’s BRITISH!
+ He’s NOT the American-movie star attractive, he just appeals to me.

It has been a very long time since I have had a girly-crush on a 3d fictional character. I never found Angel attractive (it is the truth), and John was so obviously MEANT to be with Aeryn that it never even entered my head to think of him without the latter. The last male fictional character I found hot was Aragorn… he was cool.

The funny thing is I feel nothing for the actual actors themselves. No sexual attraction at all, probably why I’m not too fussed if I don’t or do watch films/television series they star in. It is the characters they PORTRAY that appeals to me, and Tom Quinn hits every button that a fictional male character need to hit to appeal to me.

This is rather strange.

Now I need to go and buy Season 1.

A perfect summary of why Tom works despite all the reasons why he shouldn't. And you haven't seen Season 1?!

Yay! I have seen bits and pieces of Season 1 on Australian television, it is one of the reasons as to why I bought the season 2 box set (it is also the collector's edition). But never the whole season, and my local DVD stores (even the bloody ABC store) does not stock season 1. I'm just gonna have to wait for a bit before the new shipment comes in. I can't download because I live in the frim world of dial-up *cries*. But the way I figure; better quality, extra bits and the ABILITY to FREEZE FRAME like no one's business. In conclusion, I am willing to wait ^__^V

That is such a cute icon. Question: did you see the season 1 episode where he has the shoulder injury??

YES! OMFG! YES! YES! And I DIDN'T even know his name at that POINT!!!! All I saw was OMFG! Hot GUY! In pain! *happy gurgles*... and then my dad changed teh channel on me *sobs so much*.

The icon is adorable, but not made by me. I can't for the life of me remember who did make it, but it should be credited on my userpic page.

Yes that was the episode that did it for me, too. And that conversation with Ellie when he's trying to justify what he does and why he 'lied' and she's not giving him an inch and he get angry and demands, "What?" with his head on his hand in that utterly TOM QUINN way he has about him.

It is like Tom Quinn -needs- to justify everything he does, if not to himself then to the people he cares for (puts in danger). In a way it is almost the coward's way out because Tom has a conscience and it tends to waken at the most inappropriate time (everytime he does something that he know is morally wrong), and if he can't forgive himself he'll get someone else too. I think by the time he left MI-5, Tom may have found some form of peace, and I really hope that Christine and him (man, people seem to hate her) did somehow ends up together again.

Except realistically speaking, Christine probably hates his guts on some level.

More Tom, because you are like the only one who's listening.
I think what really gets to me about Tom is his inner calm, this quietness that never completely leaves him no matter how angry or how fucked up he is. It is just something, so- *wild hand gestures* so centered about him, and that makes him unbelievably fascinating to me. Add to the fact that he is strong and vulnerable at the same time, well, he has me right from the beginning.

Also (this is never going to end) his looks appeals to me, it is that mix of book-ish professor and young boy-at-heart, the fact that he is so unnoticeable in a crowd, it just makes me fangirl alll that more.

Oh, and don't forget the intelligence, the intensity or the sheer BRILLIANCE that is Tom Quinn! (When he is not fucked over by his own humanity, and the need to box his life into separate entities, despite the fact that he is fundamentally bad at separating them in the first place. He feels too much.)

Re: More Tom, because you are like the only one who's listening.
I second all that. Plus his native camouflage makes him a target for the wrong kind of person. And is that a cigarette in his hand in your icon?

Re: More Tom, because you are like the only one who's listening.
Yay!!! YES! EXACTLY! You are right (from a previous comment) about him looking younger than he actually is, there are certain times in an episode that I do a double take because Tom can so pass for a Uni student if he tries, and that would work well in his favour when the time calls for it.

Yes, I believe it is a cigarette... that's like a fic waiting to happen right there *nudgenudgewinkwink*. Ohhh, smoking for a mission, or even something he picked up after quitting MI-5, not out of any angst but for the reason he blends in better when he smokes.

.... I just had one of those brain-ending thoughts: John Constantine, meet Tom Quinn.

*SPASTICATED SCREAMING ON MY PART*

Re: More Tom, because you are like the only one who's listening.
Constantine/Quinn would be so... amazing. I started to write a Constantine meets Jools Siviter fic but it didn't have Tom in it. Maybe that's why I abandoned the idea. Ah, well. I don't suppose you're an Alias fan??

Re: More Tom, because you are like the only one who's listening.
It would be like- my brain cannot even handle the awesome that it would be. Jools need someone like Tom (someone who still believes, and Constantine knows too much to have that sense of innocence) to play off. Though having said that I think Siviter could have been an awesome devil. I know enough of Alias (not a fan) but I have dabbled, perhaps we are going to be talking of Sarks? (I know enough, see like 2 episodes, and the rest from fandom osmosis, I know that they look like.)

Precisely. I was going to rec a couple of Sark/Tom fics to you but it sounds like you got there first!

Re: More Tom, because you are like the only one who's listening.
I found the cross-over stash. Though I'm still going through the stunned phase of; but there need to be more fics! I enjoyed most of your fics, though I admit to liking Groundbait the best, as it focuses the most on Tom and is one of the longest fic you've written for Tom.

There's not nearly enough Tom fic out there. Have you raided the vaults at [livejournal.com profile] spooky_doings? If so then you've probably found the best of them. It's a scandal, isn't it?

Re: More Tom, because you are like the only one who's listening.
I have indeed raided [livejournal.com profile] spooky_doings' vaults, and it is absolutely horrifying that there is such a lack of Spooks fanfiction. I'm not even talking about the quality, the quantity in comparison to some of the other rare-fandoms out there is just criminal. And I admit right now that I am more of Tom-fan than any other of the characters, though I promised myself that I'll give Adam a chance once I get season 3 in my hands. I'm just surprised that there haven't been more fics out there about re-introducing Tom back into the MI-5 folds (I 'Groundbait' is the only one I have encountered that have attempted to write Tom back into the story).

Overall, there just needs to be more Tom.

Re: More Tom, because you are like the only one who's listening.
It's an odd thing but lots of Tom fans seem to prefer the "he's earned his peace - let him go" scenario. I think that's why there are no Bring Back the Boy fics. I feel, too, that this fandom has a fierce respect for canon which tends to dissuade those with smaller egos than mine from attempting dodgy epics which mess with the tradition. That said, given the scripts they've had in series 3 and 4, canon clearly isn't an over-weening consideration for the show's writers, so why we should bother respecting it...

Re: More Tom, because you are like the only one who's listening.
"he's earned his peace - let him go" scenario. I do like it, but at the same time I'm also one of those people who can't believe that Tom can just let it go. He'll always have issues with his conscience, but at the same time by not doing something when he has the power to help must hurt more (?). It is a hard call to make because I do think he has earned to right to rest and will not return to MI-5 unless some unforseen circumstances occurs (FANFICTION). It is one of those tough decisions because I do believe that once you leave the Grid you can't return to it (though others may look upon you).

I'm all for fanfiction for the simple reason that Tom leaving was not due to a great inspiration in script writing so much as the actor was moving onto some other projects. Furtheremore, it is fanfiction, um, that's why I read it in the first place ^^;;

I'm nabbing it right now. [OMFG! It is so cool! You are my pimp as of now.]

Question, who do I need to credit for the icon?
