More AC-thoughts...

naanima: (hello and farewell)
... Or where I ATTEMPT to make sense of a film that doesn't have any in order to AVOID WORK.

About two weeks back [livejournal.com profile] white_aster saw AC and she made a comment that struck a chord with me, (mainly because I was thinking the same thing but thought I was being crazy but if she sees it too it must mean it is TRUE!)

So, did anyone else think Sephiroth was 'playing' a role when he was all 'I'll use this world to fly through the darkness of space causing destruction,' yada-yada. For a complete and utter nut-case Sephiroth came across as amused throughout the whole encounter and it looked as if he was never serious about the fight. In fact it felt as if he was egging Cloud on so Cloud would get out of his woe-me phase and kick some arse.

It is just really strange; thinking back on the whole film, seen as a whole and not just fight scenes inter-cut with dialogue, it felt as if the whole thing was a set-up, and Aerith/the Planet was bidding for its time to get rid of Jenova's tints. The question is; why wait until Kadaj had Jenova's head in his hands, thus, the chance to 'resurrect' Sephiroth. Does it mean the Planet needed Sephiroth to be resurrected in order to 'cleanse' itself of ALL hints of Jenova? So, was Sephiroth working for the Planet? Playing a role for Cloud to do the work? But why the hell is Cloud so important for the survival of the Planet? (Having survived the Mako-treatments, the Jenova cells and the Life stream, I suppose would make Cloud very important.)

So, um, lots of questions, and lots of implied stuff, and really I don't know why I'm doing this. For all I know AC was not meant to be read into that deep, however, I am a English Major and it only makes sense for me to read into subtext and inconsistencies. Yes, I'm having fun!

yeap, really very interesting! i mean, just look at his condescending yet amused smile/smirk, and, well.. cloud's response to it can hardly said to be full of hate, eh?

anyway there's my bit right there; in the midst of a 14 hour fic immersion so brain is dead now.

Cloud is, um, hmm. As a rule I just don't trust Cloud's POV. I adore the boy but seriously, on a bad day Cloud can't even remember his own name let alone react 'correctly'

14 hour fic immersion? Do expand. (RECS!)

YES!! I can't remember which fic it is now, but somebody either meta-ed or had a character say that if Tifa had smacked Cloud on his head everytime he started to flashback aka go bonkers, the world would have been much better. which is just so true!

but on the other hand, there wouldn't be all the delicious UST-ing present in FF7 the game, as it is now. I mean. how much more blatant can the love/hate relationship get?

Eh. a hell lot of different fandoms n genres - was reading seifer/squall for a few hours, refreshing my memory of all the good fics there are. then turned to whatever ac n ff7 fic there is now - A Long, Hard Road (portions of it; I love the series but, admittedly, some parts are just waayy too over-angsty.

have you read any of [livejournal.com profile] plnunn's fics? I'd read her Saiyuki, WK and GB stuff before, but just realized there was a 17-part orig!fic (Bloodraven) that is really quite good - I'd seen it before but as the first two/three parts were really brutal and inhuman rape (even more so than usual for plnunn), I was kinda put off it. But the following parts actually start developing characterization and plot so.. =D

What kinda fic are you into, usually?

*sniggers* I ♥ Tifa in AC, she's just so cool! And I swear AC made me a believer in Cloud/Tifa, they had more vibes going than they ever did in the game.

Oh, it is /really/ blatant, and I'm so happy because of it! ^_^

ALHR! Of course, it is like a requirement if you are a ff7-fangirl. I still remember waiting for the fic to be finished, oh, how painful those days were. (I understand, I have ever only read the ending of the fic once. I just can't re-read it.)

Have you ever read [livejournal.com profile] madamhydra's 'Conflict of Interest'? Good FIC! I recommend it.

Yes, [livejournal.com profile] plnunn is GOOD! I like her stuff (Bastard, RW, Saiyuki, etc.). While I have read most of her fanfiction, I have never read any of her original stuff.

Oh boy. I read many a fics. It is hard to pin it down because I seriously read a lots of fics from many fandoms. My choice reading when it comes to anime/manga are definitely yaoi/shounen ai, however, I read fanfiction in fandoms such as 'Angel', Farscape (both of which I read gen or het fanfiction). So, um yeah, if I like a series I'll look for fanfiction on it. As long as it is well written I'll more than likely read it.

I go through FF8 fic-binge once in awhile too. (Crap game, good ending, and some really nice fics.)

I do like fics that mess with the power dynamics of a pairing. For example, have Squall as seme to Seifer being uke. Having said that I just can't picture Cloud as Seme.

Yeah Tifa's cool in AC, but, well.. speaking as a Seph/Cloud fangirl, i was desperately trying to ignore it. heh.

Yeap ALHR.. I love when they finally get together, and just.. Cloud is so unbelievable sweet and oblivious to his own worth. (i think i got into it around.. 20-plus parts, so yeah definitely share the pain!)

I've scanned through madamhydra's stuff before, but I really do prefer Seph/Cloud and I heard that 'Conflict of Interest' isn't really S/C, so.. furthermore I found Twig n madamhydra more or less at the same time, so obviously, ALHR all the way!

go read plnunn's "Bloodraven" then! At present, the two main characters are finally starting to find some worth in each other, besides the sexual aspect of it, but very tentatively and totally ignorant of what's actually happening.

eh. seconded. my fic tastes run all over - manga, anime, tv (highlander? buffy - S/X, my OTP, west wing, house, many many more..), books (gaiman, coldfire, hp etc.)

since you're into wk, i'm guessing you've read 1) [livejournal.com profile] mami_san 2) [livejournal.com profile] eidolontree 3) [livejournal.com profile] paxnirvana? I could list quite a few more, but my favourites folder is currently inaccessible so.. argh.

Not reading, since I haven't seen AC yet, just adding this to memories so I can read it once I finally have. I'd like to be able to read people's impressions on the movie once I do, at least those that have played the game, since I doubt my opinion would hardly coincide with those that haven't.

It... it is everything I hoped for, and as I said in one of my previous entries, I feel sorry for all the people who has never played the game before. The thing would not make sense to them. MWAHAHAHABWAHAHAHAHA!

(P.S. This entry has my FIRST, and more comprehensive impressions, of the film!
