NEED SUPPORT!!!

naanima: (buddies ^_^V)
Was very productive today. Two chapters of study notes have been completed, and in addition, might get paid a bit of money for a small job done. Now I'm really bored, I just don't know what to do (actually there's a list, but I'm not doing them until I drown two bottles of wine).

So, name a character (or as many as you want), from any fandom, so I can rant/rave/fangirl about them. This is not for your enjoyment so much as something I can do in between working, and studying. It should suitably alleviate me boredom (and allow me to procrastinate), and maybe I can turn it into 3000+ words essays. HELP ME WITH THE PROCRASTINATION BOREDOM!!!

Something from the In Nomine fandom. O:>

A Full Metal Alchemist one?

In Nomine fandom... they have real pretty names. Knew nothing about the fandom, and now I know it is about angels, demons and the armageddon. But wow, talk about the list of names. I really like the names of 'Daniel' and 'Aisha' ^_^V (now, I must find more info on this fandom, hmm, I might even finally read the fics for the fandom. But first I must know more.)

Question; is there a linear plot/timeline somewhere? In addition, do you have a favoured character?

FMA: I really love Roy Mustang. While I love his dork moments I love his sheer brilliance more. His wanting to better the world, his willingness to sacrifice so much but never everything, that is not his, for the goal, because, to him, journey does matter as much as the destination. I wish the anime had let him be the Fuehrer. To think; the military coup, the revolutions, the reforms, oh, the wonderful intrigue. But I understand they did it (and it does work), but to have seen Roy Mustang become Fuehrer.

FMA: Mmm, I am so glad I am getting the manga as well as the anime. The five year old is only now getting into the Tenchi series...

In Nomine: There is actually not a metaplot running in the core IN line. While there are hopefully going to be more "Cycles," metaplot-like adventure arcs, it's my intention to make them self-contained enough that you can mix and match. So if you don't want to do the Revelations Cycle, but you do want to do the Grigori Cycle, for instance, no problem, even if Rev did come first.

For a timeline of the history of In Nomine, the published one is in the Game Master's Guide. For an overview of people, you'd need the core rules (currently out of print!), GURPS In Nomine (serves same function), or perhaps In Nomine Anime, which has approximately one box of actual mechanics and some nice overviews of the people, especially in anime terms.

Or you can dig up the World Weavers links, or Harukami's links, which are more free. O:>

My Interesting Times stuff has armageddon in it; other people's fics have that as a sometime in the indefinite future thing, while the Rev Cycle has an attempt for someone to try to force it to happen.

Um, does that help?

Questions, questions. What is the significance of a 'servitor'. what is a 'word'. I think I understand, but the list of names and the Tirad-thing is very intimidating.

This does actually help, I can at least place where IT is in the plot of things.

Servitors are the angels who, well, serve an Archangel and seek to promote that particular worldview... And Word. A Word is... a concept which a Superior (Archangel, Demon Prince) is bound to -- the Archangel of the Wind has weather affinities and can be a bit flighty. The Archangel of the Sword is military, and views himself as a literal weapon of God -- and his people as his own weapons.

Meanwhile, the Prince of Lust has power over the flesh... and the needs of the flesh, at least in certain areas. And the Princess of Freedom has... well, both the irresponsibility of "whatever I want" and general "coercion harms my Word, my power, my self" attitudes.

Ayumu from Spiral!

Once again I'm asked about a character that I know nothing of ^0^ But google is my friend!

Ayumu has a GIRLY hair-cut!!!

For some reason he reminds me of Ken (Digimon 02!) I suspect it is the dead, better-at-everything-brother, except you know, Ayumu never became a meglomaniac (I hope. The google search was very simple.) Something else, Ayumu doesn't come across as cocky (or overly confident; Ken was definitely overly confident... before he became 'nice', and Shinichi of Detective Conan fame was always confident.) In fact, he seems the type to be unaware of his own brilliance (I'm so stabbing in the dark here.) If I was writing the manga I would make him face his own brilliance at some point (or at least become a bit more confident about himself).

Ohhh, I like detective anime/manga.

In addition,
I'm pretty sure he's straight.

And I have no idea if he's timid or not, though it woulnd't make sense for him to be timid if he's a detective. Maybe low-key, quiet, keeps to himself a lot. I don't like to use sullen because he honestly doens't seem sullen.

I think many a issue arises from his own insecurities, having to live in the shadow of his 'perfect' brother must do something to a person.

Re: In addition,
Ah, don't say that! *refused to believe that Ayumu is completely straight*

Well, since you didn't know who Ayumu was, do you think I can name another character, hmm?

Re: In addition,
...Okay. Just as long as it's not definite that he's straight. he can't be entirely straight, with all the male characters popping around the series...

Um, um, um...how about...um...Yohji from Weiss Kreuz, since I see you did Brad already.

I'd totally poke you to say something about Brad Crawford >D

Barring that, I went on a bit of a rampage myself today:

Brad Crawford, this is an interesting one. The first time I ever saw Brad Crawford in the WK anime I thought him to be a complete and utter bastard. Cold as you can get, and oozing slime like no one's business (complete and utter creep). I pin it on the smirk he gets, the self-satisfied, utterly evil smirk. He was the type whom you just know would steal candy from baby, and I saw none of the sophistication that fandom gave him.

Since then I have mellowed toward him, he's still a cold bastard, but at least I now believe he have a set of internal rules that he'd follow to the letter. It just happens that his survival is at the foremost of that list, though somewhere along the way his team's survival has become just as important.

I still believe that Brad began life somewhere in a trailer park, as white trash as you can be; he waited his whole life for the opportunity that he dreamed about (saw in flashes), when Rosenkreuz picked him up I truly believe Brad saw it as a chance in a lifetime (hell, he waited long enough). I see Brad working his arse off trying to get rid of any signs that he was ever white trash. Probably killed his own parents to get rid of any signs of where he came from. Hell, probably burnt the trailer park just to be sure. No bad dreams in the nights for out little sociopath.

I see him learning new languages, learning etiquettes just to be what he wants be, what he saw he was going to be. And everything was going fine, he was killing, he was earning money, and Rosenkreuz treated him as a prodigy, until he met Schulidig. And well, things started to go pear-shaped. Schu-dear is responsibility, Schu-dear is like the little brother that you had to take care of (or the pet you never wanted), too reckless to care, too impatient to be careful. And Brad found himself taking the responsibility seriously, and oh my goodness, actually caring, and when Nagi and Farf entered the picture… well, Crawford always wanted his own family and Rosenkreuz would never let Crawford have this. So, like the trailer-park parents, Rosenkreuz had to go.

So, I started really not giving a rat’s arse about Brad Crawford, but fandom is a wonderful thing, and I willingly admit he is one of my favourite WK character.

So, now I ask you, what do you think of Brad, and Ken (separately.)

These 2 boys, having played so often in my head, have taken a life of their own. Therefore, I give you my fanon version of the tale - Crawford at 8, Ken at 22 - both displaying behaviours that I see characteristic of them as I write/draw them. I've this huge Rozenkreuz backstory for Crawford and his boys, but I doubt it'd see the light of day XD;;

==========

Brad Crawford:

He's cold and aloof, preferring the comfortable silence over the touch of another human. But it was circumstantial, and it wasn't something he decided upon in a day, or any particular point in time. Maybe it began in his early years, the one that he preferred not to talk about. Always it started in the playgrounds - someone bigger, someone older, perhaps a mixture of both. He did not consider himself odd, but apparently the other boys didn't have that on their agenda. As long as he was smaller, as long as he was younger, Brad Crawford was open for all-season hunting. Sometimes he ran, and sometimes he stood his ground. But more often than not he took to the branches of an old walnut tree that had curled away from the wind. It lasted a good a few years before his favoured branch dropped under his weight and landed him right into the waiting ring of still-larger and still-older boys.

He had saw to it that any evidence of himself as a wet-nosed, doe-eyed child was destroyed on the same day; that very day in which he aimed to give better than he got. When he hit the broken concrete upon landing it was more calculated than forced, rolling as his back connected with the scruffed grey surface. When the base of his palm was thrust right at one boy's greasy nose, hearing a dull crunch that might have been as much his as it was the boy's, he saw fit to skid around and away from a fist-shaped bruise that formed on the boy's cheek a second later. When he struck, he aimed for a kill. When he saw those fleeting flashes of what was to come to pass, he tried to go with the flow.

He tried.

He didn't enter by the front door that day, or the back door for that matter. Instead he followed the drain pipe (at least this one held) up and into his open window, a grey curtain ruffling his hair as he trodded a mud print onto his sheets. He didn't open his door for a next 2 days, which was not an issue to begin with since Mother and Father were often away. When he finally left the confines of his room and chanced upon the hallway mirror, it occured to him that they looked wrong - those ugly cuts and purpling bruises. They had no place resting on his skin, marking him a savage, and one who could not stand his ground at that.

Next time, he muttered to himself, picturing or perhaps seeing the same pimpled face drooling blood into the cracks of his fist.

Next time he'd do better.

Hidaka Ken:

He wants to do good, wants to make things better for the world. After all, Weiß extends beyond the reach of law to reclaim justice where it is lost among paperwork and stoolies, don't they? Each man he impales, each time he draws blood from another he whispers to himself, "It's alright. We are making things better."

Making things better.

He isnt a good liar, he never had a gift for it. But he is good enough to convince himself that it is all that mattered. As long as they are ridding the world of evil, as long as they are weeding out the criminals. As long as he can keep the weak from being preyed upon by removing the criminal elements living above them.

One way or another.

~*~

On the streets they rattle no cans, sit beside no signs a-begging. At night they sleep on cardboard boxes, hualed from the back of electronic shops. At best these last only for a few nights of sleeping on the cold grounds - the police come and remove these "fire hazards" soon after. When no one is watching, when backs are turned, he reaches over and snatches a few pieces away, returning them to their original spot as the men in blue leave. Sometimes he slips a few notes in-between the pressed cardboard, sometimes he runs the full errand by going round to the back of shops to retrieve discarded cardboard boxes to replace the taken ones. But he never waits to see if his gestures are welcomed.

There resides no fear in finding out the worse - that these people find his intrusion a mockery. Forced pity, they will say. No, his ears do not burn at such words.

After all, he is making things better, isn't he?

But maybe there is the worry that his work goes unnoticed. A kindness lost among the pressing needs of surviving yet another day - another meal, another drink of clean water.

Moving in the dark, killing for the sake of bettering the miserable state of society. A man lost among the ever-increasing, all-shadowing darkness.

Another death-rattle, another night up polishing off blood that is not his.

He hopes that he is making things better.

Crawford: Intensely self-preserved man who sees himself above the common.
Ken: Uncertain, but inherently optimistic despite the odds stacked against him and his work.

As you can see, I prefer fanon to canon. After all I'm sure that anyone forced to look at canon characters like Brad Crawford and Draco Malfoy, we'd have to admit that they're repulsive, arrogant scumbags. But take it to fanon and, well... you know. Stylised bad boys.

jesusfeckingchrist. WOMAN! Why AREN'T you WRITING MORE Brad and Ken?! Together! Separate! Whichever, I'd be happy with both. (this is not a small hint to you to work on your wips, honest.)

I love how you depict Brad as centering on himself. Motives, actions, the need to do better. Everything is about how much he can control, how much he need to control, how much need to change in order to control. LOVE! Adore the way how so much Ken is about justifying his own actions as to not feel guilt. That what he's doing is right, but knowing nothing is ever that simple.

And absolutely fascinated how both are so delusional in their own different ways. Absolutely love.

P.S. Definite preference of fanon over canon. That's what I love about fanficiton, give depth to characters that never got the chance.

Considering that I wrote this with 2 disruptions of a dinner and a phonecall, I'm surprised it's even readable XD;; But thank you for the kind words.

Ah, Monochromatic Whispers... it's turned into a bit of a monster, actually. With it slated to end in exactly 1 chapter's time, it becomes very hard to write a satisfying conclusion to their affair, even if I've known the ending before even writing the story. Someday, perhaps, when words don't elude me as so XD;;

I love my boys, delusional and in need of reassurance as they are.
