Not happy, Jan!
The OTW is open for membership; as soon as I find my credit card I'll be making a small donation to them. I may not agree with everything the OTW is trying to accomplish but I do believe in the spirit of their organisation.
f*cking target sign and be done with it. I'm all for freedom of press, but NOT when it put people's lives at risk. Now a member of the Royal and all the people he is serving with is under much more danger. Just WHAT IDIOTS DECIDED IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE THIS NEWS RELEASAED?! Human stupidly or human greed, either this was just a stupid move by the media; it shows carelessness and a total disregard to other people.

Writers Strike is Over, which, um, well I honestly didn't believe in especially when I realised it was Michael Eisner who made the remarks (FYI - I think Eisner is very close to the devil). Then of course 10 minutes later my suspicion was realised when I read Do not, repeat, do not, believe anyone who claims that the writers strike is over yet. Here is what informed sources are telling me as to the WGA's plans for the next few days...
Guys, at this point I don't think believing the Networks about the WGA strike in any way or form is the smart thing to do. It isn't as if the networks haven't shown their complete bias about not covering the WGA strike, and basically painting the writers as greedy. I honestly don't think they are about to report, you know, actual, real news about the WGA strikes. So, please stop posting about the WGA strike being over until there is definite evidence of it from the WGA rather than a head of the media moguls.
Thanks.
So, I wake up this morning to several LJ comms/people posting that the

Kevin Rudd of the Labor party has won the election by a landslide; he's the 26th Prime Minister of Australia. For people who don't realise what a big deal this is, a short explanation - the Liberal party headed by John Howard has been in power for 12 years, with a n election every 4 years. Labor has consistently lost every single election, and today, for the first time people who have never voted for Labor did. Australians, traditionally, do not vote out government, this is just mind boggling.
One of the reporters on the ABC made a comment that sums up why the results of this election mean so much to me. Paraphrasing here - Australia wants more than an economy, they want a society. Yes, we want a society.

Turn On. Tune In. Take Over.. It details the (r)evolution of television and technology. A section from the article, which is absolutely fascinating.
ETA: Slashdot release a comprehensive article on Livejournal's Newest Failure and PR Nightmare. It is nice to have someone else track the whole fiasco.
A very interesting article from 11/21/05 - All of which leads to an enticing possibility: Let’s say that Joss Whedon, creator of Firefly, wanted to bring the series back to air. (Though “back to air” is a TV phrase now as anachronistically quaint as “switching the dial.”) Let’s say he found a million Firefly fans online—and, trust me, they’re not hiding—who were willing to pay, say, $39.99 each for a sixteen-episode season of Firefly. (Not an unreasonable price, given how many people pay about that amount for full seasons on DVD.) Suddenly, Joss Whedon’s got roughly $40 million to play with—and he doesn’t need a network. Or a time slot. Or advertisers. He can beam the damn shows right to your computer if he wants to.

It isn't law yet, so is there a way to stop it? I could've sworn that the Federal government can't pass laws like this without the states and territories agreeing.

James Comey, the former Attorney General of the USA, at the Senate Judiciary Hearing on Gonzales (in short).

The picture Comey paints of the current government of USA, while I knew in a subconscious way, is still very bleak and more than a bit disgusting.

Joss Whedon speaks out about the torture and murder of Dua Khalil.
I don't talk about the issue of gender equality much, mainly because I think I'm pretty damn lucky, and my guy friends tends to present a pretty convincing case of how feminism have gone too far. But you know - every time I hear about a woman being raped, every time I see a religion/culture punish a woman for being a woman, and every time I turn on the fucking television and it is about sexualising a woman and not returning her the dignity she deserves, I think feminism didn't go far enough.
I don’t understand how anyone would want to punish someone because of their gender, I don’t understand how anyone can think a girl deserves to be tortured and stoned to death, and I don’t understand how someone can have the fucking time to film it but the not the time to stop it.
This hurts - there are days that I honestly hate humanity, and the thought of us nuking ourselves out of existence because of our own stupidity doesn’t sound so bad.

On the home front, the Australian government gets more embarrassing.
Somber matters aside; while on the bus yesterday I overheard a conversation between three girls that were around 12-yr-old or so. Their topic of conversation; miscellaneous television series, in the time span of 20 minutes I learned all I needed to learn about The O.C., Prison Break and 24. This is extremely significant as I have never seen more than 5 minutes of the stated series. I do admit, I learned more about The O.C. than the latter two series as the girls were much more interested in the drama of good looking youths. Anyways, apparently, in The O.C. Summer is cool, Marissa is depressing, Seth is a dork, and Ryan can’t seem to decide what he wants, and that there was a girl called Anna (Anne?) who people seem to have differing opinions on. I comment on this because the conversation reminds me why I stopped watching T.V.
… Except I caught one episode of Smallville yesterday, and if the overheard conversation on the bus didn’t remind me on why I stopped watching T.V., the badly written angst on Smallville has reinforced my view.
Also, television makes me mad, just ask the boyfriend. I get more snarky and more vicious in my commentary.
I'm so sick of the people who don't know anything, who have no personal investment, being all high and mighty. Forgiveness does not come from you. So, back off.

[EDIT: Pope John Paul II has died. I'm a bit stunned. He was the last public figure of his generation that I truly admired. The Queen Mother Elizabeth and Mother Teresa being the other two figures I admired greatly that had passed away in the past decade. Talk about the end of an era.]
[EDIT 2: And Andre Norton passed away on the 17th of March?!]
